How I Celebrated St. Patty’s Day
Usually I’m working on Saint Patrick’s Day and after work my friends and I go to McGeary’s to have a drink under their tent. This year Saint Patty’s Day fell on a Saturday and I probably would have went to Albany’s parade or something like that.
This year I happened to plan my vacation for my school’s spring break which happened to begin on Saint Patrick’s Day weekend, so it was a bit different this year.
Saturday morning my parents, Chris and I headed over to Vero Beach, which was about a 20 minute drive from their house. They have a lovely farmer’s market we wanted to check out. It was small but they had some nice stuff! A lot of fresh fruit (its strawberry season!), tomatoes, and fish, of course!
There was also a guacamole vendor. They were making fresh guacamole right there!
They started out with a bunch of avocados, added a few ingredients and then mashed it up. It was awesome.
I couldn’t pass up a small tub of that stuff. It was GOOD!
Chris and I also went to the fresh juice vendor and I had my first fresh squeezed vegetable juice. I got the Divine Blend, a mix of greens, carrot, granny smith apple and beet juice!
After wandering around the market we went across the street to check out the ocean. Yeah, a farmer’s market on the ocean? I could get used to this!
We then hit up the Vero Beach Outlets for some shopping! Actually, it was pretty unsuccessful. You’d think you’d be able to find a pair of jean shorts in these parts…but the ones I did find I didn’t like. So I left empty handed. I did, however buy my first Pair of Tom’s on Friday at Ron Jon’s in Cocoa Beach (with a 15% off AAA discount…yeah!)
I did get some TCBY chocolate chip cookie dough frozen yogurt (the old school hard froyo!) at the outlets, which was pretty yummy. This ended up being my lunch because it was so filling…
After our non-shopping trip, it was time for the beach. We went to my parent’s “private beach”. Actually, its the beach for all the residents of their community, so they have a key. It wasn’t crowded at all.
We did have some awesome neighbors hanging out with us though.
A perfect day! It wasn’t too hot and the breeze was just right!
Of course, St. Patty’s Day wouldn’t be complete with a trip to a bar. After the beach we went home for a little bit to eat dinner. Then we went to Mulligan’s for some drinks. Chris got a green beer in honor of the holiday, and I got a margarita!
Mulligan’s was having a corned beef slider eating contest and Chris wanted to enter it! Unfortunately, he got eliminated in the first round. The participants had to race in these little scooters, and whoever won got to be in the contest. Chris’ didn’t work well so he didn’t qualify. Darn it!
But these guys made it the final round…
We still had a good time even though Chris wasn’t in the contest..it was funny watching them.
We walked back to the car and enjoyed the sunset. It was a lovely day!
How did you spend Saint Patrick’s Day?
