Run Like a Diva Half Marathon Long Island – Part I
A few months back my college friend Megan found the Run Like a Diva Half Marathon and convinced me and our other friend from college, Krista to run it! (not much convincing needed here).
My sister, Julie, also came along to run her very first official 5K the Diva 5K!
It was Meg’s second half marathon and Krista’s first!
I’m so proud of them both! 🙂
Anyway-the weekend started early Saturday morning when Megan, Julie and I drove down to the Poughkeepsie train station to meet Krista and take the Metro North Railroad down to Grand Central in New York.
We ate a quick lunch in Manhattan by Bryant Park, where I had a smoked salmon open faced sandwich on whole wheat at Le Pain Quotidein. It was so good!
No stop to New York is complete with a stop to Crumbs Bakery.
And then we headed to Penn Station to catch the Long Island Railroad to Uniondale.
Once we checked into our hotel in Long Island, we hit up the Diva Race Boutique (girly name for Race Expo) to pick up our packets!
The race expo was filled with tons of girly running things and lots of free samples of Luna Bars, the race’s major sponsor. Score!
And some peanut butter…
There were lots of sparkly things, including headbands! I wanted one but resisted since I found a cheap one at target in the Halloween Costume section.
Hangers for your race bling. Psst, I need one of these since my medals are now out of the control.
And we even got a sneak peek of medal we were going to be getting after the race!
How’s that for race bling?
After the expo it was time to relax and find someplace for dinner. Since we didn’t have a car, we decided just to stick to the hotel restaurant called Champion’s, which was a sportsbar.
I played it safe with a fish sandwich. After wiping off the glob of spicy mayo, it was pretty tasty.
We had an early bedtime because we had a super early wake up call to get ready for the race…stay tuned!

Wow great blog! I used to run in college, and I miss it! I never reached “marathon” level, but was in great shape. The last pic looks pretty yummy!
