Pacific Coast Highway

Sunday after the big wedding, Chris and I decided to take drive back to Huntington Beach to see some sights. First, we stopped for breakfast at a place I randomly found when searching for vegetarian restaurants, called Secret Spot.

It was a little hole in the wall –you would never know it was there unless you were looking, hence the name? You could tell this a place that the locals love.

Everything on the menu looked amazing. I decided to go with the cabana cakes–pancakes with cashews, pineapple and raspberries with potatoes on the side.

They were so light and fluffy and the cashews gave them a nice crunch–I loved them! Chris ordered a breakfast burrito and loved it too. This was actually our first real breakfast since being in California–we were eating Clif bars for breakfast every day.

After our awesome breakfast we decided to drive down the coastal highway to see more of California. We drove past the site of the wedding, and then came to Newport Beach. Never in my life did I think I’d be driving through the place where one of my favorite shows took place (ahem).

One of Chris’ friends told us about this beautiful state park we should check out so we did just that.

It was breathtaking! And we even spotted a dolphin in the cove.

After wandering around the beach for an hour or so, we decided to keep driving down CA-1, soon we hit Laguna Beach. We just drove on by but it was fun admiring the huge houses. 🙂

On our way back we stopped at Huntington Beach again, this time Chris wanted lunch at a burger place called Slater’s 50/50.

I wasn’t too hungry so I got a wilted spinach salad with aspargus, sunflower seeds, and sun dried tomato, which ended up being very good! It was fresh, and the addition of sea salt to the salad made the flavors pop. The goat cheese on top was also a great addition.

I was tempted to try their veggie burger but the salad was just right for my appetite.

All in all, a successful day in CA! It was our last hurrah since we had a super late flight Sunday night–but it worked out so we had more time to spend sight-seeing during the day.
