Hellions of Troy Roller Derby

Okay, here is Part 2 of my Saturday night, in case you all were waiting patiently. 🙂 After dinner at Aperitivo, Chris and I headed to our very first Roller Derby bout! My close friend Marcie is a member of the Hellions of Troy Roller Derby team, and she also blogs about it for the Troy Record. For those of you unfamiliar with the sport of Roller Derby, check out this article, which explains it pretty well. It was pretty easy to follow once we watched them skate around the track a couple times!

It is also really hard to photograph moving skaters. I apologize for the blurry pics. Anyway, this is the first time I’ve ever seen a roller derby bout, and it was extra special because it was the Hellions first home bout of the season!

Marcie is in this photo, in the white helmet! It was the best shot I got of her…they go so fast!

The Jammers, the girls who score, are the girls with the stars on their helmets. This is how I could tell them apart!

Marcie got to Jam once during the bout too, which was so awesome to watch. I heart you Short Temper! (Marcie’s Roller Derby name.)

The bout was really exiting and Chris and I both had lots of fun! I can’t wait to see Short Temper skate again in the next home bout!

I had to buy a sweet shirt at the merchandise table to support the team and show love. 😉

The thing I loved about watching roller derby is that it is a very female empowering sport! I can tell these girls really love it.

I forget the final score, but the Hellions won the bout! Woohoo! 🙂
