A Quick Update

I have to be quick with my blog update this morning! I’ve decided to try to work on my time management skills, because lately I’ve been lacking in that department. On the days when I have class or have plans with a friend after work, I sometimes don’t get home until 9 or 10 PM, leaving me little time to get things done (dishes, laundry, blogging, etc.) So, I’ve decided recently to get up a half hour earlier each day to leave me more time in the morning to take my time and enjoy breakfast, check e-mail, and so on. I’m on day 3 of this and so far its been great–I’m not as tired as I thought I’d be after getting up earlier. And maybe I will try to workout in the mornings? That’s a stretch, but we’ll see.

So lets rewind to yesterday’s breakfast! I had some apple flax waffles leftover from a while ago, so I popped them in the toaster (I think toaster waffles are the best invention ever!) I topped them with apple butter and some sunflower seed butter for a filling breakfast! I burnt them on the edges a little bit but it wasn’t too bad.

Last week I convinced my cousin Liz to join me for yoga last night. She takes a dance class regularly, but she had never done any form of yoga, so I was excited that she came with me to my class at Heartspace.

Class was general yoga, all levels. Description: During a Kripalu Yoga class you can expect to meet basic to challenging postures while focusing whole-heartedly on relaxing the mind and body. The class starts with a brief meditation and is followed by breathing techniques, warm-ups and postures that challenge as well as allow you to release and let go of the day. We flow from these moderate level poses in order to find a deeper sense of peace and calmness in our lives. Class is always concluded with a deep relaxation and a brief meditation. All are welcome.

My opinion on the class was that it wasn’t really a moderate level. I wasn’t challenged during class at all and didn’t break a sweat once. It was relaxing, don’t get me wrong, and I love that about yoga, but this class just wasn’t up to par to what I’m used to. But I guess that was good for Liz, since it was her first time doing yoga and it wasn’t intense. But I just wish we had left with a good sense of what yoga is–a good workout as well as relaxation, and this class wasn’t it. Oh well, you win some, you lose some! Liz liked the class–but said next time she wouldn’t do an hour and a half since it was a long class for her first time.

After yoga class, we were starving so we made a pasta dinner, of whole wheat linguine and veggie smart pasta sauce. I accidentally deleted the photos, which I thought were quite nice, so you’ll have to do without, sorry. 🙁

Yesterday also marked three weeks since the start of my running hiatus. Which means, tonight, I can run! I’m going to run a few miles on the treadmill tonight and see how it goes.

Overall, during my break from running, I didn’t feel depressed about it all–which was surprising to me! I mean, I would have if  the weather was nice, but for the the past three weeks the weather was horrendous! I didn’t mind staying inside at the gym and going to yoga classes. In fact, this time off gave me a chance to do more yoga than I normally would have, which was really nice!

So I hope everyone has a great Wednesday. Wish me luck with my run tonight!
