The Thanksgiving Dilemma Part II
Some of you may be wondering about what I’ll be eating Thursday on Thanksgiving if you’ve read my Thanksgiving Dilemma post a few weeks ago.
I’m actually pretty happy to say that my dad was successful in his turkey hunting adventures and came home one day with not only one, but two wild turkeys!
And yes, one looked just like this. Sort of.

I do have photos of my dad with his birds. I debated, but I’m not going to post the pictures. Even though I’m proud of my dad, I’m not that comfortable looking at the dead animals myself, and I know many of you probably wouldn’t want to see it either!
I’m actually looking forward to having turkey for Thanksgiving after a seven month hiatus from eating that kind of meat. And I feel really good that the turkeys came from the wild (and practically my own back yard), rather than a factory farm! As cheesy as this sounds, I would also like to thank the turkey for providing me and my family with a delicious Thanksgiving meal. 🙂
The question remains: will I go back to eating turkey (or chicken) after this? Probably not any time soon. 🙂 Although, I may partake in the Thanksgiving leftovers and enjoy a wild turkey sandwich.

Have a Happy Thanksgiving! I think you made a good choice – I personally don’t have an issue with whole concept of eating meat…if I know where it came from. It’s the whole factory farming thing that gets to me too…enjoy!

Hi Jen – I’m coming over from Rosey Rebecca and jsut want to say I think it’s great what your family is doing. I am also a vegetarian for ethical reasons and while I haven’t exactly CRAVED meat since reading Eating Animals I think if my family had a wild turkey I would be more willing to eat it!
Great post 🙂
Jen
thanks! and thanks for stopping by! 😀

Yay for wild turkey! They sure are funny looking creatures haha. Happy Thanksgiving Jen!

I’ve actually had this same dilemma. I gave up meat because I do not like the way animals are processed like mere slabs of meat rather than actual feeling creatures. However, by that logic, I should be okay eating a turkey on Thanksgiving as long as it was raised humanely…right? Yet after being completely meat free for a few months now, I’m still hesitant to eat even a humanely raised turkey. Weird right? I guess I still have a couple days to decide!

I did feel little bit hesitant too at first. But I did promise my dad I would eat it if he got one for me, and he did, so I gave him my word! 😉 Now I’m kind of looking forward to it!

I’m glad your dad was able to get a bird.
Hunni will be eating a chicken from a local farmer. He eats ethical meat only too.
