Celebrating Global Fat Bike Day at KP Trails
Saturday December 1st was Global Fat Bike Day! There was an organized ride happening up at KP trails in Saratoga, so my friend Erin and I decided to check it out. Snow was mostly gone at KP, just a few spots here and there (Erin rode her regular mountain bike, as did others) but since my full suspension bike is out of commission at the moment (plus it was global FAT BIKE day), I brought my fat bike. Riding with the Saratoga Women’s MTB Collective
A few months ago I joined the Saratoga Women’s MTB collective, a group on facebook dedicated to ladies who ride. It’s founder, Cath, had recently moved to the capital region and couldn’t find a women’s riding group so she started her own. Now there are 60+ members! Cath organizes group rides (held the second Sunday of the month!) as well as bike maintenance clinics at Blue Sky Bicycles. Yesterday I went on my first group ride at KP Trails in Saratoga. Fat Biking at KP Trails in Saratoga
A few weeks ago Jordan and I got out the fat bikes for a ride at Kalabus Perry trails in Saratoga. The recent March snowstorms had dumped a generous amount snow on the ground, so we decided to take advantage. This winter hasn’t been the best for fat biking due to the fluctuation in temperatures. With temps above freezing, snow gets really soft and hard for the tires to get much traction. On this particular day, it was in the low 40s.
