Fat Biking at KP Trails in Saratoga

A few weeks ago Jordan and I got out the fat bikes for a ride at Kalabus Perry trails in Saratoga. The recent March snowstorms had dumped a generous amount snow on the ground, so we decided to take advantage.

Fat Bikes in their natural habitat

This winter hasn’t been the best for fat biking due to the fluctuation in temperatures. With temps above freezing, snow gets really soft and hard for the tires to get much traction. On this particular day, it was in the low 40s. Lowering the PSI in our tires helped a little bit, but the snow was still very soft! The below is a great graphic explaining fat biking tire pressure!

The groomed trails at KP were mostly double track. After riding aimlessly for a while we found a nice trail that turned out to be the KP Upper Loop.

From what we rode at KP, it seems like a great place for a beginner mountain biker. I’d like to check it out in the summer to see if there is any good singletrack! As much as I love my fat bike, the conditions really need to be perfect for a good ride. I’m ready for dirt.
