    Tour at Albany Distilling Co.

Saturday during our brief little snow storm, my sister, her boyfriend Brian and I braved the elements to the Albany Distilling Company in downtown Albany. We got a tour of the distillery, which is pretty small, but it was really interesting. They get all their grains for producing the spirits from local NY State farms! This thing was cool–all the grains go into this thing and turns them into a porrige-like consistency before the distillation process. And then the good stuff comes out of here eventually. After the tour we got to sample some whiskey–the Coal Yard, an unaged whiskey, which was clear and looks like vodka! And the darker…

    Albany’s Last Run 5K

Ever since I began running races I’ve wanted to run the Last Run 5K in Albany that goes through the Lights in Washington Park. Well, 2012 was the year I finally signed up early enough (They cap it at 1500 runners so it always sells out fast!). I have been taking time off from running in order to help my leg heal (not exactly sure what’s wrong with it yet), but I had already signed up for the 5K so I wasn’t about to miss my chance to finally run it! The race started by the Capitol Building on State Street, complete with fireworks! I ran about a quarter mile…

    My Trader Joe’s Essentials

Since the grand opening of Albany’s Trader Joe’s grocery store back in August, I’ve been a frequent shopper. I get all my weekly groceries there and there are a bunch of products I love! In case you’re new to Trader Joe’s and want some suggestions of what I love, here are some of my favorites. Essential Food Items The Granola. I really love the pumpkin spice granola. I also sometimes get the vanilla almond kind, both are great. Organic Blue Agave Sweetener. I got this recently to use in my tea at work, I loved it so I got one for home too. I noticed it tastes best with fruity…

    A Run Filled Weekend

What a run-filled weekend! Yesterday Melissa and I got our long run–a scheduled 19 miles for both of us. Fives weeks until the marathon and we’re both in pretty good shape. Thankfully my ankle has been okay since taking a spill at Ragnar. Our run consisted of two nine mile loops plus one mile extra on the first one. Let me say, the second loop was hard. It is a very hilly route that we’ve been training on for the past few months and so far it has been worth it! I tackled the hills pretty good the first loop, but for the second I was getting tired. After hitting…

    2012 Workforce Team Challenge

As I mentioned yesterday, I ran the Workforce Team Challenge last night after work! I headed to the Empire State Plaza with my friend/co-worker, Valerie, who was also running the race. My sister also met us there because she was running for her work team! As always, the start of the race is so crowded you can hardly run. Well, you can slowly jog up Madison Avenue. I didn’t find a good pace until we hit Washington Park. My first mile was 9:15-ish. My second mile was under 9:00!  And my third mile was my fastest, around 8:30 something, I think. Leaving the park and taking a left onto Madison…
