Albany’s Last Run 5K
Ever since I began running races I’ve wanted to run the Last Run 5K in Albany that goes through the Lights in Washington Park. Well, 2012 was the year I finally signed up early enough (They cap it at 1500 runners so it always sells out fast!). I have been taking time off from running in order to help my leg heal (not exactly sure what’s wrong with it yet), but I had already signed up for the 5K so I wasn’t about to miss my chance to finally run it!
The race started by the Capitol Building on State Street, complete with fireworks!
I ran about a quarter mile as a warm up, to test out my leg, it was still feeling sore–the pain was still there! After 6 days off I was hoping it would be gone. But I ran the race–decided to not push myself and just run it for fun.
It was so cold! Anyway, we started the run up State Street, which, after 6 days off, my legs did not appreciate. We turned onto Willett Street and then headed through the park. Running through the lights was pretty spectacular! I hadn’t been through here for them in a few years.
It was pretty! My legs were giving me a hard time through the park, but finally mile 2 came up, and I was around 18:30, which wasn’t too bad. I could finish it in under 30 minutes!
The last half mile was down State Street…I wanted to pick up but my legs just wouldn’t move that fast. Finished in 29:18! Never underestimate a 5K! My legs were tired and sore…at times I thought my legs felt better at mile 26 of my marathon they did during this race. Ha! The nagging pain in my thigh/hip area finally went away about 2.5 miles in…and the race was practically over.
Race Stats:
Distance – 3.10 miles
Time – 29:18
Average Pace – 9:27/mile
Other than that, it was fun! Everyone was dressed festive and I even decorated my shoes.
This is definitely a must-do race in Albany!
