Seven Miles of Speedwork and a Running Giveaway
Happy first day of FALL!!! Is it just me or has the weather been weird lately? Yesterday I was freezing and today it was muggy and humid? So strange….BUT I have some great news for you guys, I have another giveaway!!! I will tell you about it in a minute….
But first, want to see something hilarious? I posted this on facebook last night and I got bunch of responses. My pictures from the Warrior Dash were finally available for viewing, and I saw this:
It looks like I’m crying after getting up out of the catskill skid, where my whole head went underwater at the very end of the slide. Yeah…I actually was having fun, despite my facial expression. My mom and I had a good laugh at the photos last night.
Chris’, on the other hand, was way more awesome!
He looks like a real warrior! My warrior! 😉 He should totally order that!
Anyway, in running news, my training schedule has been totally screwed up due to my races and my class on Thursdays, so today I had to get in my seven miles of speedwork. I decided the treadmill would be my best option. I love how running on the good old treadmill seems so much easier after doing most of my training on the road. I got it done!
1 mile warm up
1×1600 @ 8:56
800 recovery jog
1×1600 @ 8:56
800 recovery jog
1×1600 @ 8:56
800 recovery jog
1.5 mile cool down
Seven miles done. And it wasn’t too bad. Although, I did notice a tightness in my left leg, and some pain behind my knee. I took a short walking break and it went away, but I hope its nothing serious.
Post run refuel with a chocolate cherry + strawberry bomb.
In the smooooothie:
- 1/2 cup of almond breeze
- 1 scoop of chocolate brown rice protein
- Frozen organic cherries
- 4 frozen strawberries
Post run dinner was some scrambled eggs, spinach and feta in a whole wheat and flax pita.
I’ve never tried stuffing anything in these pitas before, since I usually just use them as wrap, but they didn’t hold up too well. I kind of just ate the eggs out of the wrap, but it was still so tasty. Scrambled eggs are one of my favorite post-run dinners.
Okay, time has come for me to tell you about my next giveaway! I’ve seen a few other running blogs with this giveaway as well, but that just means its awesome (and more chances to win!) 😉
Brooks has offered to give a lucky reader a pair of their awesome running shorts or a jacket! How awesome is that? I’m already extremely jealous of the winner. Here’s what you can do to win a pair of shorts or a jacket:
Leave a blog comment on this post and answer this question: if you’re a runner, what is the one piece of running/workout gear you can’t live without? Your watch? Shoes? iPod? Let me know! Mine would have to be my iPod, since I feel completely LOST when I don’t have it to run with.
For bonus entries (leave a separate comment for each entry):
1. Go check out the new promo video for the Brooks’ new Glycerin 8 Running Shoe; and leave a comment about it. Its a parody of the show “Lost”, which I have never seen. But I’m sure video is funny. 🙂
2. Go to BrooksRunning.com and tell me what jacket or pair of shorts you would pick if you won.
3. Tweet about my giveaway linking to this post!
4. Subscribe to my blog in google reader or some other feed reading application.
Good luck! 😉 You have until September 29th at midnight to enter (one week). On Thursday, September 30, I will pick a winner. Now get to it!

I would have to say my do or die piece of running gear is my ipod. I really can’t run without it. It helps me zone out.
Jennifer@ knackfornutrition
I could really use the Brooks Infiniti Jacket as I live in upstate NY and the weather is about to go from gorgeous to RANK in no time flat. I don’t have any breathable rain running gear, so this win would do me a solid.
Jennifer@ knackfornutrition
Since I am here blowing up your giveaway, I added you to my google reader! 🙂
Katie @ Healthy Heddleston

Ooo baby does a skort count as shorts!? If so.. that is what I would want to try!!!
Katie @ Healthy Heddleston
Watched the video.. this is cute. I’m liking the cushioning system… and how the liquid adapts to you.. interesting!
Chris
As I have no problem running with my shirt off, I can probably live without it. But when it’s sunny I couldn’t run without my sunglasses. They block out the sun and make me feel really cool, ha. 🙂
Lizzy @ LBBakes
Ah, be careful with leg tightness!!
I can’t live without my visor in the summer – I freak out if I don’t have it!
Lizzy @ LBBakes

Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life
AWESOME giveaway Jen!! I’d have to agree with you…when I COULD run before, the iPod was definitely a necessity. 🙂
Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life
I’m totally LOVING the LSD Lite Jacket – so cute!
Courtney @ Sweet Tooth, Sweet Life
And I just tweeted about your giveaway too!
Miranda @ MirandasJeans
Love your pictures, I have 2 of me jumping the fire. Sadly no pictures of my hubby were tagged, we spent 15 minutes searching through lost and general photos to try and find him before we gave up last night. lol
Jen
thanks! Chris said he looked through the 6,000 “lost and found” photos, to finally find himself jumping through the flames!
Mardi
Holy cow. I would not get far without my athletic bra!!!
Jen
SAME HERE!! LOL.
Cynthia (It All Changes)
I just can’t live without my back brace. I need it to run so I can’t live without it.
I love your picture and laughed out loud when I saw it yesterday. 🙂

I have to agree 100% on the iPod … and I’m soo thankful that Apple just fixed their mistake on the iPod Shuffle. I upgraded to the one that looked like a stick of gum, but as soon as you start sweating, the sweat would seep into the controls and crap out the whole thing. I just bought their newest release and all is better in my world 🙂
I found you blog from the All Over Albany website, I think … and you’re locked into my reader 🙂
Please don’t include me in the giveaway. I just recently won a $30 itunes giftcard from another blogger and I don’t want to be greedy. Good luck to everyone else!
Jen
thanks!! I was looking into the shuffle and reading all the bad reviews, but now that they’ve fixed the issues I thinK I may get one! My ipod is coming up on four years old, I am so afraid its going to crap out on me during my half marathon. That would be bad!!! Thanks for your comment.
abbi
My must have is my Garmin…would be lost without it!
abbi
You are in my Google Reader.
abbi
I would love the Nightlife jacket.
Kelsey
I would have to say my Garmin. I feel completely lost without it, and I hate not knowing exactly how far and fast I went on my run.
Kelsey
I’ve got you in my Google Reader 🙂
Kelsey
I would LOVE the Utopia Softshell! It’s starting to get cold in Ohio and that would be perfect!
Kelsey
I tweeted too!
abbi
Watched the video – effective in getting their point across about the cushioning system.
Judy
Well, good shoes (& socks) are a given. But really it’s any piece of running clothes with pockets. Almost all my running clothes — tops & bottoms — have pockets.
Tops with thumbholes are a close second when the weather is cooler.

I love love love the infiniti jacket!
Stylish1
Tweeted about it! http://twitter.com/Stylish1z/statuses/25338920498
Vanessa
I would be so grateful for the Infinite jacket. I run around 5:00am and so I could definately use it this Fall/Winter. I love this giveaway!
Vanessa
I can hardly run without my ipod. My music keeps me going! “I think I can, I think I can.”
Chris
I’d definitely take the LSD lite jacket. It’s perfect and not so neon that people will get seizures watching me run in it.
Katie from Run Little Legs!
You’re in my Google Reader AND I’ve tweeted.
First off, I love your warrior dash photo. It’s just classic. I hope you buy it. Chris’s is pretty badass. I hope he gets that one, too.
As for what I can’t run without – probably my Garmin 305. My iPod shuffle is great, too, but I’m so attached to watching my pace and time and distance on my Garmin that I think I’d go nuts if I didn’t know how I was doing on my run (performance-wise).
Onward to the Brooks jacket – I only have one running jacket and that is all. As much as I run, I should have more. I’m oddly attracted to neon (in live, in general) and I’d have to say that I can’t help but love the Nightlife jacket. Plus, I live in the city of Baltimore and people around here drive like maniacs. I put reflector tape all over me no matter what I’m doing just to make sure that I don’t get hit crossing the street.
Abby (Nibble, Nourish, Run)
Awesome giveaway! I’d definitely have to say my iPod is essential to my runs. I don’t know what I would so without it…music motivates me!
Abby (Nibble, Nourish, Run)
And I’m subscribing to your blog…so glad I found it!
Alicia
I would need my sneakers!!
Alicia
I follow you in my google reader 🙂
Alicia
I would love the Infiniti II shorts. I still haven’t found the right pair! These look awesome.
Hayley
I am new to running. I would be lost with out my iPhone and my water bottle. I have been really happy running. I also love your blog. How’s class going?
Hayley
@healthyhayley
Jessie
I can not live without my spibelt! And I’ve only had it a few months, I can’t believe what I was missing! I run with my iPhone so that I can use the GPS to track my runs, and hated having to wear it on my arm or carry it the whole time. The spibelt is awesome. I was skeptical of it bouncing around, but once on and running, I don’t realize it’s there at all.
Jen
I have a spibelt too, and its AWESOME! that’s another thing I can’t live without!!!
Jessie
If I win, I want this jacket. I don’t own a single waterproof layer for running in, and the bright colors would be great because I do most of my runs in the wee hours of the morning when it is still dark.

I have to admit, I’ve never watched Lost, but the Brooks video is funny. I love the little bouncing DNA’s towards the end :).
Erin
I would love to win!!! I can’t live without my hat for running.
Kassi
I am an aspiring runner at this point and have to say that, so far, my ipod is also my saving grace! I’m using a couch to 10 k program so it not only provides my tunes, but also my motivation 🙂
Kassi
lol… that video is hilarious! 🙂
Kassi
Ooh, the LSD Lite Jacket looks awesome!
Kassi
I am already subscribed to your blog on google reader! 🙂
Chris
I gave up on Lost about 5 episodes in so I don’t think I ever saw the video that Brooks DNA is trying to parody. But I would still love to try the technology.
Brian
I would have to say that a pair of decent running socks is key to having a great run. Having some cushion under each step really goes a long way, literally.
Carolyn @ lovinlosing
My most important running item is probably my Garmin! 🙂
Carolyn @ lovinlosing
If I won I’d get the Utopia Soft Shell jacket.
Carolyn @ lovinlosing
I tweeted!

Oh my gosh that video is funny! I especially love that the girl is larger than the guy lol. I don’t know why but it cracks me up!
Mallery
Classic photo from the Warrior Dash! I added you to my blog roll today and think the Utopia Soft Shell jacket would be great for fall/winter running. Personally, I can’t run without my SmartWool socks – no more blisters!
Courtney
I cannot live without my sports bra! I wear lots of other stuff while running, ipod, garmin, ect…but I could go without those anytime. Can’t go without the sports bra.
Courtney
I tweeted! sosuperc

Heather
this may sound ridiculous – but it’s rare that I run without my blackberry – sometimes i need that extra push that twitter friends offer when im mid run and wanting to roll my way home, ya know?
Tiffany
I would have to agree with you, I could not live without my ipod!
Tiffany
If I won I would choose the Utopia Thermal Hoodie.
