Scenes from a Long Run
This morning was really gloomy as Chris and I started our run out on the Corning Trail. We got there early and started running. I wanted to get it over with early because I wanted the rest of my Saturday to relax! 9.0 miles seemed pretty daunting on a trail that seems never ending.
But its nothing I haven’t done before. It was actually my longest run since the Stockade-athon in November. And today it was a bit colder. I was wishing for warmer weather this morning, or at least, some sun. But we didn’t get either.
Chris started with me and we ran the first 5.0 miles together. We did an out and back on the trail so I could return to my car and refuel with some chocolate gu.
Long runs are mostly mental. Of course, I know I can physically run it, but mentally is another story. I try not to think about the distance but break it up into pieces. 2.5 miles out, turn around, 2.5 miles back. 5.0 miles done which means there is only 4.0 miles left! I look forward to water and some energy gel. Then Chris ran home and I started jamming to my music. Another 1.0 mile in the other direction, and 1.0 mile back.
Another stop at my car for H20, and then another 2.0 miles on the trail.
Only 2.0 to go! 2.0 miles is nothing.
And then the I90 Bridge means only one mile left.
Soon, I was done!
Not too shabby. I felt really good at the end. I actually ended up running 9.3 miles to make it a 15K distance since I felt good enough. I didn’t beat my 15K PR though, but there’s always next weekend!

Hurray!
I came home and immediately made a chocolate strawberry banana recovery smoothie.
- 1 cup almond milk
- 1 scoop brown rice protein powder
- 1/2 banana
- 5 frozen strawberries
- 1/2 tsp maca powder
Mmmm…cold, but good!
Shortly after I made some simple scrambled eggs for lunch.
Gotta love it.
And now I’m off to do nothing, which I haven’t done in a LONG time. Have a nice Saturday!

Woo hoo! Great run! I love the photos. Even when I run on the trail, I tend to take my GUs and water with me. I don’t think about stopping to get more. Will have to consider this in the future.
