Injured?

Go figure. Just when I’ve found the perfect pair of running shoes…the pain in my feet goes away and a new pain in my upper left thigh develops.

For the past three weeks I’ve had a nagging ache somehwere in my left thigh. (FYI my A&P class taught me the quads are actually a group of muscles: the sartorius, rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vatus medialis, and vastus intermedius.) One of them is hurting when I walk around and foam roll on certain parts of it. It gets worse after I run. Needless to say, I’m self-diagnosing myself with a strain and forcing myself to take time off from running. After chatting with Kristin last night on Twitter, I think this is the best thing. This probably means no Hangover Half Marathon. I’m really bummed but I want to make sure I’m 100% for when I start training for Vermont City in January. If it doesn’t get better after a few weeks of rest then I’ll see the sports doc.

At least I made it to 1,000 miles in 2012 already. I’m going to run a 5K on Saturday that I already signed up for but I’m going to take it easy. After that, no running…unless the pain disappears.

Now I just want to focus on healing. I’m hoping I don’t loose all of my fitness. I would still like to do some of the long distances in the Winter Series in January/February. For now it will just be yoga, cycling and the elliptical. I tried a spinning class for the first time tonight and it didn’t aggravate it it all.

Now, give me some tips for spinning because I have no idea what I’m doing.
