Riding the Farmer’s Daughter Gravel Grinder
Riding a Gravel Grinder has been on my bucket list. Gravel grinders are challenging endurance bike events that are typically ridden on gravel or dirt roads. The best bikes for these events are gravel bikes, cyclocross bikes or even hardtail mountain bikes. Jordan and I both recently got gravel bikes, mainly because we wanted a bike to ride a gravel grinder! The Farmer’s Daughter starts at Crellin Park in Chatham, about a 30 min drive from Albany. There were no race bibs or timing chips, this was just a large group ride, with some serious riders! A total of 65 miles, the Farmer’s Daughter course rides along the hills of Chatham…

Riding the Old Champlain Canal Trail
Wednesday’s weather was fantastic. It was also my birthday! When I got home Jordan and I decided to take our bikes out for a quick ride before dinner. We both recently got “alternative road bikes” which are meant for road/dirt/gravel trails. So far, we love them. We rode along the Old Champlain Canal which starts in Waterford. It was a nice, quiet gravel trail, perfect for our bikes. We rode about ~10 miles total. In mid-April I injured my knee when I was riding at North Bethlehem. I went to the Bone and Joint Center where they did an x-ray (no fracture)-just a bone bruise. So I haven’t been riding much…

Winter Adventure Update
No, I did not fall off the face of the Earth! I’ve neglected this space for the past month because I’ve been busy with my clinical rotation of my Dietetic Internship! On January 16th I started this 13 week rotation at a hospital in Western Massachusetts, so I’ve been living in the Berkshires during the week and returning back to the Capital Region on the weekends. It has been going pretty well so far! I plan on doing a Day in the Life of Clinical Dietetic Intern pretty soon! But here’s what I’ve been up to. +Fat biking! Last weekend Jordan and I drove with a few of his friends to…

50 Mi Tour de Habitat
Saturday morning I rode in the Tour de Habitat, a local bike ride to benefit the Habitat for Humanity. I rode this ride a few years ago and was happy to see that it was happening again after a few years off. The Habitat for Humanity builds and rehabilitates homes and brings neglected neighborhoods back to life. There ride began at Druthers Brewing Company in Downtown, Albany. I was doing the 50 mile ride! I was a little nervous because I haven’t been road biking in a while and the last time I rode that far was back in July. Oops. Thankfully, I felt great all day! I brought along…

Mountain Biking at Luther Forest
So Jordan is really into mountain biking and he even has a fat bike! The other night I joined him and his friend on a ride after work at Luther Forest in Malta. There are some nice trails here! They are single track and friendly to newbies like myself. {These photos are from early May, notice the lack of leaves on the trees!} I am borrowing a friend’s old mountain bike (a Specialized) to see if I actually enjoy mountain biking. Its official: we are running out of room in our tiny apartment because bikes are taking over. Anyway, I really liked riding the trails at Luther Forest! There is…
