Riding the ADK Ididaride Gravel Course – 11.7.20

Last weekend my friend Aubrey and I got out on the gravel bikes. The weather was looking amazing, so we decided to ride the ADK Ididaride Gravel Course. The Ididaride is a bike event that takes place in North Creek (In the Adirondacks) every summer. I was planning on participating in the event this past July but it got canceled (along with everything else) due to Covid. The past few years they added on two gravel options, a 22 mile and a 30 mile route.

We arrived at the North Creek Ski Bowl area around 10 am on Saturday. The temps were already in the 60s, which is pretty uncommon for the Adirondacks in November.

It was my first time riding “gravel” in the ADK. The roads were more like a sand/dirt combination which made riding down the steeper sections a little sketchy. But it was a lot of fun. Some of the roads seemed very remote, even though they weren’t that far from the town.

We stopped for lunch at the halfway point. There is a deli on route 8 that had a lot of good food options! We refueled and rehydrated and then continued on the route.

My favorite section was probably the last part, where the final 6 miles are on River Road, high above the Hudson.

Overall we had a gorgeous day for a ride in the Adirondacks! We’re going to go back and do the longer route eventually.
