Another Year, Another Boilermaker
Ah, the Boilermaker. A 15K race in Utica that I love to hate. I love this race in theory, but when I’m at mile 6 in 84 degree weather with the hot sun shining down running with 14,000 others and a huge hill to climb, I hate it.
But, apparently I forgot those things. I remembered the free beer at the end and the awesome crowd support. I registered for the 2013 race. Just in time too, because it sold out a few hours later. In three days. Maybe this year the organizers will take a hint and have pace corrals at the start for some control. 14,000 people is A LOT to cram on one little street with no organization.
This race holds a special place with me because it was my first long distance race. I ran in 2010. And then again in 2011. I didn’t register in 2012, but made it a priority this year because all in all, its a fun race despite the tough course and hot weather. This time I know better than to set a PR goal for this race.
I also managed to snag a seat on a bus with the local running club to take up to the race the morning of, which is nice! I’ll get to meet new runners and hopefully have a good time. None of my other friends registered in time!

I also signed up for this year, and I’m really looking forward to running it!

The Boilermaker is so much fun! Joe and I didn’t register before it sold out this year and we are bummed we will miss it. Enjoy some extra beers for us:)

That looks like a fun, but challenging race! My favorite kind. Love the name, too!

A race like that definitely needs corrals. You can’t shotgun that and hope for the best!
