The Return of Homework

I hope everyone is having a great week! My week has been pretty hectic. Work is crazy and I’m starting a new class TONIGHT! I’m pretty excited/nervous. I haven’t taken a class in 2.5 years. The return of homework! It will be interesting to work homework into my schedule now!! Back when I was in college, I never had “30 minutes of yoga” or “run 8 miles” on my list of things to do. Now I do! 🙂 Generally, I have pretty good organizational skills, and I’m improving them as time goes by and my life gets busier.

Because of my class, I will not be home for dinner, so I packed simple maple peanut butter sandwich on a sandwich thin, an apple, and a granola bar to bring with me to class. Lets hope this holds me over!

Last night I did my six miler, according to my training plan. I ran six miles in 1 hour and 2 minutes. Not too shabby. I ran my usual five mile route, and just added in an extra mile in the middle. Instead of turning around where I usually do, I just kept going! I had originally planned on running on the treadmill, but the weather was nice and cool, and it seemed like the perfect temp. My run went pretty well, other than some stomach pains throughout–for some reason I just cannot figure out the secret to running five or more miles in the evening. No matter WHAT I eat during the day, I will get a stomachache that will last until I go to bed. Not too fun. But I push through it anyway, since the evening is the ONLY time I can get these runs in. Yesterday for lunch, I had a bowl of Special K Protein Plus with almond milk, and some fruit. Could fruit be the issue? Anyone have an suggestions??

Anyway, I will be having another pretty cool (non-food related) giveaway coming up next week– so make sure check back. Especially you runners out there! 😉
Okay, I’m off to my first class. Wish me luck!

Do you think it’s what you’re eating or the timing of the last thing you ate before the run?

I would suggest trying to take note of the time — I usually aim for 1.5-2 hours before the run .. sometimes this is tricky — but works for me at least!

I eat lunch at 11:30-12:00 with a snack at 3:00, so I’m not really sure, since I run at around 5:30 Pm…I figured that was enough time to eat and digest.

    Hi Jen

I just found your blog! Anyway your stomach problems might be the cereal. I found that a lot of the cereals that have added fiber and protein bother my stomach. The same with the granola bars. Just an idea.

I figured it was the fiber…but never considered the protein before. As for granola bars, the ones I eat aren’t that high in fiber, so I dunno…those are my snack..so I will have to try to find something new.

One thing I noticed is that if I eat dairy in the meal before I run, it does noooot sit well…maybe try oatmeal instead of cereal?

thats a good idea too…but I use almond milk in my cereal, so the only dairy I have is at 10:00AM with my morning yogurt. LOL. It never bothers me if I run before lunch though! so weird.

I have been having random stomach pain. Are you bloated? I think too much fiber can hurt you to. I find eating healthy most of the things I like have fiber and that can back fire. Maybe go a little bland and see if that changes anything?
