    Trail Run Wipe Out

Yesterday Chris and I decided to run the ARE’s second trail run of the summer series at Peebles Island. It was a beautiful night perfect for running! It was my second time running here with the ARE and it was fun as always… Then, this happened. I lost my footing at the end of the first 2.5 mile loop on a downhill and tumbled down, landing on my right arm. I lost an earring in the process, too. Fortunately I didn’t twist an ankle so my legs and feet were fine and I continued on, and ran other loop! Another nice runner named Dave stopped and helped me and we…

    Practice for the Hairy Gorilla

I had this past Monday off from work for the Holiday (hurray!) so Chris and I wanted to make the most of the beautiful weather! We drove up to Thacher Park to run the trails and do a bit of light hiking. We ended up running about a mile since my hip started acting up and just walked the rest, which was okay in my book. I needed to get in at least a little bit of trail running before the Hairy Gorilla Half Marathon! I’m still on the fence about running the whole half marathon of the trail race or sticking with the 6 mile version. I’m torn! I…

    A Beautiful Trail Run

Last Thursday my friend Laura and I decided to run with the Albany Running Exchange in their Trail Run Series. Last week it was at Peebles Island State Park, a new to me park in the Capital District. The run was a 2.5 mile loop around the island, and it was gorgeous. I managed to snap a few pictures while on the run, and may have even stopped a few times. I’m really loving these evening runs with the ARE. There’s nothing better than running around the trails when the sun is just starting to go down. Beautiful! We were originally going to do two laps, but because I wear…

Trail Runs are Dirty and Scary

Its no surprise that I love trail runs. But last night after doing my second run of the summer trail run series with the ARE, I was left covered in mud…and kind of scared. Let me explain. Last night’s trail run was at Thacher Park, which is also home to the Hairy Gorilla Half Marathon and Squirrelly Six Trail Race. I ran the six on Halloween last year. It was fun! But I also fell and twisted my ankle at the last quarter mile. Ouch. Apparently I forgot about that. The trails last night were extremely technical and very very muddy. Part of the trail was even under water! I think…

First Trail Run of the Season!

Its almost summer! Every summer the Albany Running Exchange has a summer trail run series where they have a group run on a local trail once a week. I finally joined ARE for the small fee of $10 a year, mostly because I really wanted to partake in these runs. I really love running on trails. Its such a great feeling to be out there running with nature! And who can complain when you can see these views? Over 100 people showed up the run the trails at Five Rivers, a local Environmental Education center with tons of fields, trails, and streams. Its also full of wildlife. Running through Five…
