Riding the ADK Ididaride Gravel Course – 11.7.20
Last weekend my friend Aubrey and I got out on the gravel bikes. The weather was looking amazing, so we decided to ride the ADK Ididaride Gravel Course. The Ididaride is a bike event that takes place in North Creek (In the Adirondacks) every summer. I was planning on participating in the event this past July but it got canceled (along with everything else) due to Covid. The past few years they added on two gravel options, a 22 mile and a 30 mile route. We arrived at the North Creek Ski Bowl area around 10 am on Saturday. The temps were already in the 60s, which is pretty uncommon…

Columbia County Gravel Ride
A few weeks ago Jordan and I took advantage of the gorgeous fall weather and decided to do a gravel ride down in Columbia County with some friends. We parked at S&S Brewery (they were closed) which is a good starting location for some great gravel routes in the area (it’s where the Farmer’s Fatty and the Gravel Gobbler start!) I found the route for the 2020 Virtual Gravel Gobbler on Ride with GPS. Even though there are some challenging climbs on this route, it’s such a beautiful area so all the climbing was worth it. 2020 Virtual Gravel Gobbler Dirty Bird Distance 24.3 mi Elevation 2,158’ Time 2 hrs,…

ACL Recovery Log #14 – 3 Months Post Op
Last week marked 3 months post ACL reconstruction surgery! Three months marks a few big milestones, one of which is starting plyometrics in PT (light hopping and jumping), as well as a follow-up appointment with the doctor. Last week he cleared me for walking easy hiking trails, as well as some easy mountain biking. I must admit I haven’t done either yet. I’ve been a little reluctant to get on my mountain bike for obvious reasons. However, I have been riding my gravel bike a lot recently. Over Memorial Day Weekend I had a goal to ride at least 50 miles over three days. Done! I rode a total of…

2019 Gravel Gobbler
I love fall gravel riding. When the mountain bike trails are soggy, it’s time to hit the gravel roads! On Saturday, Jordan and I met up with our friends Margaret and Jeff for the Gravel Gobbler, a gravel ride that starts at S&S Brewery in Nassau. The great thing about the Gobbler is that the proceeds go directly to the Regional Food Bank of NY–such a great cause! Jordan and I were originally planning to stick to the shorter, 23-mile gravel route, but got talked into riding the 38-mile route instead. The route was very similar to most of the other gravel rides I’ve done (the first gravel gobbler, the…

Gravel Riding at Mohonk Preserve
On Saturday Jordan and I decided to go on a Gravel Adventure down in the Catskills! We drove the 1.5 hours to Mohonk Preserve to ride some of the bike-friendly trails. It was a beautiful day, so everyone else had the same idea. We drove around the area looking for a parking spot for about 30 minutes until we found one at the Mohonk Visitor Center. I went inside and one of the workers recommended a nice 12-mile route for us! It involved a tiny bit of road riding to get to the starting point of the Undercliff Trail, but totally worth it. The gravel carriage trails at Mononk are…
