Summer in the City – Day 1: Pancakes, Wine & Cupcakes

—–

After gallivanting around midtown in the city, it was time for us to head down by Subway to the East Village to meet up with one of Chris’ friends. She took us to a tiki bar called Macondo! It was cool–kind of like an oasis in the big city. 🙂

We started out with a carafe of Guava and Whiskey, which was a bit too strong for me, but it was pretty tasty at first.

The mixed drink was followed by a carafe of red sangria. Never any problems here. 🙂

Followed by a bottle of Xingu Black Beer. I only drank about half a bottle.

The interior of the bar was pretty sweet.

Not a bad place to chill for around three hours. 😉 We were actually waiting to go to a show at the Mercury Lounge, which didn’t start until 11:00!

Before the show, we needed some food, so pizza it was. Of course. 🙂 We went to Two Boots Pizza! This place was really cool (I didn’t take any pictures…) but you could also rent movies along with ordering pizza. We ordered a tomato and spinach pie, and it was delicious. Take my word for it!

Soon enough it was time to see the Spinto Band! The singer of the band is actually one of Chris’ friends from college! They’ve had a song in a commercial and a video on MTV2, so they’re big in my book! They were awesome! I’m a big fan of most indie rock, so I really enjoyed the show. You can check out one of their songs on youtube.

It was pretty late by the time we got the subway back to our hotel. It is really true that NYC never sleeps. There are people out and about on the streets at all hours! Its really something. I kind of like it!

And that, folks, is the end of my Friday in the city! Day Two recap will probably be up later today!
