Post-Marathon Blues
So, this was the first weekend in months that didn’t revolve around marathon training. And honestly, it was weird. Last week I was still on my post-marathon high and now I feel a bit lost…just keep thinking “what’s next???”. I don’t like being in training “limbo” with nothing on the schedule. It feels weird! All I know is I want to run another marathon this spring, but I’m not sure which one yet. A few members of Team B.A.D. also have our eyes on the Cape Cod Ragnar Relay in May–but we haven’t finalized anything yet…it’s been mostly just talk, so we’ll see! (Cape Cod is out–I just realized Chris and I have a wedding to go to that weekend.) I guess you could say I’m suffering from some post-marathon blues.
Here’s what I do have on the schedule though…
The HMRRC Winter Series. I finally became a member so these races are FREE for me this year! I know I’m probably a bit too excited for these bare bones races that loop around a boring state campus, but I really like running them! I’m going to do the 15K in December, along with the Hangover Half marathon on January 1st…all I know is I’d really like to set a PR during the half, so I have a lot of speedwork in my future. 😉
I’m also signed up for my first 5K in what seems like forever…the Albany Last Run 5K!! I’ve been wanting to run this race for YEARS, but get closed out every time. I finally registered early enough!
Anyway, this weekend was spent eating and drinking wine. Sadly I didn’t have the miles behind me to make up for it, but at least I managed to run a 7-miler on Saturday (I think my idea of long runs are now warped…), and then three on the treadmill today before taking my first Body Pump class in months. It felt pretty good to be back lifting weights. I’m hoping to add it to my workout routine again.
Friday night I hosted a wine night at my place, some girls came over for wine and cheese. It was low-key but fun.
Saturday I made my first ever pumpkin roll, which came out looking pretty decent, except a bit flat. My sister and I were headed to a “friendsgiving” party at one our college friend’s house. It was awesome! So much delicious food and awesome dessert.
This was the best though…
A chocolate turkey cake! I didn’t try it but it looked SO good. I was busy eating pie…
Now its time to get back on healthy eating train. After marathon training and whatnot, I feel I really need to buckle down again, especially before the holidays get into full swing.
Now tell me…which marathon should I run in the spring? 😉

Aww, marathon blues do not sound like fun! But I know what you mean — your mind was focused on the marathon for so long, so it takes awhile to adjust back to “regular” life. 🙂 That’s awesome that you’re already running! I was destroyed for weeks after my marathon last year! Maybe when I am home for a few weeks in December we can find a race to do together, although I keep forgetting it’s not race season in NY. 🙂

Yes! I’ll also be in Florida Jan 5 -13. Are there any races out by you???
luv what you do
I love proseco! This looks like such a fun evening and that turkey cake is GREAT! I had the post marathon blues and I think my post marathon post was titled Now What? because I was so lost. I didn’t do the race this year, but I can’t wait to run the Chicago marathon again next year!

We were talking to some guys in Richmond about the Chicago Marathon–the one guy ran it like 15 times or something crazy–he made me want to run it too!

No clue of a city/area but I would say go for a destination marathon.
