My Run-versary

August 2011 marks the three-year anniversary of when I started to get in shape. Three years ago this month I first decided to run a lap around my old high school track instead of the usual walking routine that I had. I wanted to step it up a notch! And thus, I became a runner. I didn’t feel like a true runner for a long time, but after I realized how important running was to me, I started to feel more and more like a “real runner”.

Who would have thought that would have lead to three years of actually enjoying running, training for races, PRing, and even running multiple  half marathons!

Last night I made up my own speedwork session. I ran four miles around Albany, keeping my pace under 9:30/mile. I averaged 4.06 miles at 9:17/mile pace! This is the fastest I’ve ran in a while, and it felt GREAT! The air was also a lot less humid at 76 degrees, and the sun was going down. There was  a cool breeze. It felt amazing to be out there! I miss running the cooler weather so much! The hot and humid temperatures definitely DO affect my running, causing me to run slower and because of this my race times have been suffering.

I’m going to put together a training plan that focuses on speed so I can run a faster half marathon in October. (I’m running the Divas half marathon in Long Island!) I said the same thing for the Boilermaker, but that failed miserably. I know the cooler temps in the next coming months will help me get faster!

Oh, and Chris, myself and my sister (!!!) are running the Warrior Dash again tomorrow. Lets hope I look better tomorrow coming out of the mud slide than in this picture.
