More Fitness Women’s Half Marathon

Well, I’m finally back from my trip this past weekend in New York. Alicia (my travel buddy–we went to DC together last year!) and I took the Megabus down to NYC Friday morning because we were both going to run the More/Fitness Women’s Half Marathon in Central Park!

This was Alicia’s first half marathon! I’m so proud of her!

The race was yesterday morning, bright and early! The park was looking gorgeous. There was rain the forecast but it held off–and the sun came out!

It  started at 8:00am sharp! There were also starting corrals, which was nice. I somehow ended up with a green bib for 8:45 pace…don’t know how that happened. I wish!

Anyway, I will just let you know now that I didn’t set a PR during this race. It was too humid and there were many many hills all throughout the course, which consisted of two huge loops around Central Park.

But, I don’t feel disappointed because I did pretty good considering how tough it was! I felt strong the entire time–except for the last mile which was at a gradual incline. My legs just didn’t want to move fast! But, I do have another half marathon in three weeks I can focus on….

Anyway, here is the low down on the race: There were many water stops I took advantage of! There was also Gatorade. This was great. I made sure to take a sip of water at every stop, however, I do wonder if I carried my own bottle if I could have taken a few minutes off my time without stopping to walk through the water stops….I should invest in a handheld for next time!

The Results:

Finish time: 2:07:27. My third fasted half out of seven total.

Alicia finished her first half in 2:23–which is so awesome. You did so great, Alicia! Alicia’s cousin Jen, who we stayed with in New York, also ran the race and did awesome too. It was great!

If only I can get my pace down to 9:30 average for a half marathon, I could set a PR. Now–time to focus on Pittsburgh– BRING ON THE BRIDGES!

Now, can someone recommend a good handheld water bottle?
