Key West Eats

So, if you’ve ever been to Key West you might know that its pretty much a non-stop party town. There are tons of bars and restaurants up and down Duvall Street and the surrounding side streets, so finding a place to eat wasn’t going to be hard at all!

We got there at about 2:30 in the afternoon and hadn’t had lunch yet, so we checked into our motel first, which was located a few blocks form Duvall street in the historic part of Key West.

The motel wasn’t amazing, but it did the trick! It was within walking distance of all the Key West sights! The block it was located on was quaint…and the houses were so pretty!

We walked to the nearby beach just to scope out the area. There was also a restaurant, called Salute, right on the water that Chris had found online earlier, so we went there for our late lunch.

They were out of Sangria, so I opted for a Beach Bum instead.

For lunch I had the salad with apples, gorgonzola and walnuts. It was one of the best salads I’ve had in a long time! I loved it because they didn’t skimp on the cheese or apples. So good. It was so fresh! The bread it came with was also great, soft but chewy too.

And of course, you can’t make a stop in Key West without…

It was heaven!! I’ve had Key Lime pie before, but not with the thick merengue on top! The key lime flavor was spot on, too.

After lunch Chris and I decided to walk around Duvall Street. We ended up walking down the entire street. There were so many shops and things to see. It was cute! This restaurant caught our eye…

A place to eat where everything on the menu has peanut butter? Sign me up for that.

Unfortunately were were still full from our late lunch, so no peanut butter for us.

We arrived in Mallory Square just in time for the Sunset Celebration. It was full of people and there were a lot of street entertainers in action.

And of course, the sunset!

There was even a guy flying with a jetpack over the water. Interesting stuff.

It was fun watching the sunset.

Once the sun went down the nightlife was in full force and the spring breakers came out. It was so crowded on the streets! We happened to find a quaint little place called Kelly’s on a side street that looked pretty good with garden dining.

I got a glass of white wine to enjoy on the patio.

Also, another Key West must eat: conch fritters!

These came with a sweet and spicy sauce and were pretty tasty. Conch kind of reminds me of clams a little bit.

I also wanted to try the banana pineapple cobbler, except when it came out, it wasn’t actually cobbler. Instead of a crunchy topping it had a sponge cake bottom. It was okay, but not the best. I didn’t finish it.

Overall, it was a nice place to relax for some outdoor dining, away from the rowdy crowds of Key West!

We ended up walking all the way back to our hotel too, which probably made it about 3 miles total…so I’m including that into my vacation workout. 😉 Chris and I had a great time in Key West…more to come!
