Girls’ Night Out and a Wet Long Run
Happy Saturday!
Last night was girl’s night! Every few months my college girlfriends and I like to get together to meet for dinner & drinks. Last night we met at Brown’s Brewery for some tasty brews and and a delicious meal!
I ordered one of my favorites at Brown’s, the Cherry Raspberry Ale, complete with the cherry!
For my meal I went with my old standard, the black bean & barley burger. I also got a side of broccoli instead of fries, because, this is a healthy living blog, after all!
The veggie burger was a bit drier than usual, but still tasty. I ate half to save room for another drink!
After dinner we headed next door to Ryan’s Wake, a popular Troy bar. I was feeling the fruit beers last night so I went with the Ithaca Apricot Wheat. Tasty!
We chatted and enjoyed each other’s company, it was nice evening!
Thankfully I got to bed a decent time last night (10:30), because I had an early morning ahead of me. I was supposed to meet Melissa at 7am for a long run at the Niskayuna Bike Path! I had never been there before so I was excited to run in a new place.
The fuel: two van’s light waffles with sunflower seed butter & strawberry rhubarb jam…yes, this is a recycled photo.
Unfortunately, the weather was not very cooperative when we got to the bike path. It was POURING.
But, we ran none the less. The first few miles were excruciating. My all-weather running jacket is apparently NOT waterproof (water resistant?) and was drenched within 10 minutes. So we left our jackets on a bench on the path and hoped they were still there on the way back (they were!).
Once we got rid of the soaked jackets, we felt ten pounds lighter! We ran like the wind, despite the torrential downpour. And shockingly we weren’t the only people there running!
Melissa and I both had 7.0 miles to complete, so we ran 3.5 out and back. At mile 3.0 there was a gigantic hill, and we both were determined to make it up. We did! Hurray!
It started raining even harder on the way back, and our clothes were completely soaked through, but it felt kind of calming to be running in the rain! Despite soggy shoes and clothes, it wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. I’m proud of us for sticking with it. Melissa is a great running buddy, she is so motivating!
A wet 7.0 miles completed in 1 hour and 9 minutes.
Hurray! Thanks, Melissa for your iPhone pics!
It felt good to be done!
After coming home for a nice hot shower, I was starving so I made myself some pancakes! Some buckwheat pancakes filled with pecans and dates to be exact. I really love buckwheat, its so light and fluffy and makes great pancakes.
I spent the rest of my Saturday napping followed by a test for my class, no fun. I did reward myself with this, though: a vegan chocolate cream filled cupcake from Xs to Os Vegan Bakery! It was delicious.
Question for the night: what is the worst weather condition you’ve ever ran in?

I’d say the worst condition I’ve ran is snow, lots and lots of snow. However, the Nashville marathon I ran 3yrs ago could possibly be the worst. It was so hot that 3 people died. I wasn’t prepared to race (didnt train enough), plus the heat made for a miserable race!

Oh hell to the yeah, I love it when bars compliment fruity beers with the appropriate fruit.
While I’ve never been much of a runner, I’ve had a kickball game in the rain. Muddy fields + rain + semi-sheer wet neon green shirt = not the show everyone came to watch!!

I loved running in the rain! Glad you came with me and braved the conditions. Great job! We both looked like drowned rats in those pics! LOL
I am determined to go to Xs to Os Vegan Bakery this week!! Woooohooo for baked goods!

I ran 13.1 in the freezing, sleeting, rain – it was NOT fun. I’m not a fan of rain. That was the only time I’ve run in the rain.

Did you run with the Nike Stop jacket? I think it’s on your blog and is water resistant (I think… I’ve only wore it once in light rain and it was great). There is a great one on clearance at the nike.com website too (thermal, better for winter, but the best water resistant I own!)
Jen
yes, thats the one i wore! it soaked through, so its def. not waterproof! kind of wish it was, though for the price i paid!

I re-read the information and it says the Nike stop jacket is for “moderate weather”. Perhaps downpour is not considered moderate weather — ugh.
Jen
good thing i mainly use it for winter running!!!
