Welcome to Pittsburgh!

Chris and I arrived in Pittsburgh this morning (we’re here to visit his parents), and got here just in time for lunch, since we flew! We went to Hofbrauhaus, the German Beer Garden. I guess Hofbrauhaus is also a popular Beer Garden in Germany, and they are suddenly popping up in big US cities.

Of course, we ordered beers!

I got the Hefe Weizen, a sweet wheat beer.

Today, I ate my first fried pickle. Not that its a big thing or anything. I don’t really eat fried foods that often, but I had been hearing lots about them lately. We ordered the sampler app, which came with pretzels, fried pickles, potato pancakes, and sauerkraut balls. The fried pickles were pretty tasty…for being fried. And I do enjoy pickles. They are definitely not something I would eat on a regular basis, though.

I think my favorite was the potato pancake. It came with applesauce and was incredibly tasty. Everything on the plate was good though. I liked the pretzels too!

Fried. Pickle.

For my meal I ordered the garden burger…veggie burger. (the healthiest thing on the menu?) It was alright. I’m assuming veggie burgers aren’t really german food. 😉 I ate half of my burger and all of the fries. Ooops. There is something I love about fries + ketchup. I hardly ever eat fries, so I treated myself. They might be one of my favorite “unhealthy” foods (not counting baked goods).

There was corn and black beans in the veggie burger, which was made it pretty good, but it still tasted like your generic veggie burger.

After lunch, we walked around some of the stores nearby, including an outdoors store…where I saw the best invention ever…

An aluminum wine glass..for camping. Now that is camping with class!

Question: What is your favorite “unhealthy” food??? Mine would either be french fries with ketchup or fried dough, like you get at the fair. So good, but so bad!

Oh…Pittsburgh. As soon as I clicked on this post to read it, I thought about a Primanti Bros. sandwich. Yum…haven’t had one in awhile but that would certainly be classified as unhealthy! Enjoy the rest of your trip!

OMG this is such a coincidence! I was browsing through the new healthy living blogs site and wanted to see who blogged from back home in NY and I came across your page. You won’t remember this but I met you and your sister before like 5 years ago when I was visiting THE Kelly Wolfner up at St. Rose. Weird, right? So I’m saying hi and definitely adding you to my blogroll!

Poutine, hands down. It’s a Canadian thing, more specifically a French Canadian thing.

    Picture it:

A heaping plate of french fries, topped with cheese (maybe even cheese curds if you’re feeling fancy), topped with gravy.

    So good! So bad!
