Exploring Pittsburgh

Greetings again from Pittsburgh. ๐Ÿ™‚ Chris and I decided to see the sights (and eat good food) today. It all started here.

DeLuca’s Diner supposedly has “the best breakfast in town“, even the guy from Man Vs. Food came here! Chris has been determined to have me eat at all the Pittsburgh staple restaurants while I’m visiting, so DeLuca’s was the first stop today!

DeLuca’s had a very hometown diner kind of feel to it! Chris ordered a “mixed grill”, eggs, meat, and veggies.

So much food! I, on the other hand, decided to go with the Strawberries & Cream Buckwheat Waffle.

I’ve never had buckwheat before, but it didn’t taste much different than whole wheat. What is buckwheat you ask? I looked it up, and according to this site, “Buckwheat is thought of as a cereal, but is actually an herb of the buckwheat family, Polygonaceae, a relative of the rhubarb. Buckwheat is also gluten free, which makes it an ideal food for those allergic or sensitive to the gluten in found wheat and other true grains. After being removed from the husk, the triangular seeds are used to make flour.

It was tasty…and didn’t even need maple syrup!

After breakfast we walked around the Strip District, where DeLucas was. The strip had a lot of different food markets. But we wandered into a chocolate shop!

There was so. much. chocolate to choose from! I had to buy something, so I got a small package of dark chocolate covered pretzels, and a bar of my favorite chocolate, chocolove dark chocolate with almond and sea salt.

We spent the rest of the day wandering around downtown Pittsburgh.

We also stopped at the Fort Pitt museum before we headed back. It was pretty fascinating to learn the history behind Pittsburgh.

Chris and I planned to go to the movies this afternoon to see Winter’s Bone, but before that we stopped at a RazzyFresh, a Self-Serve Froyo shop! My faaaavorite! ๐Ÿ™‚

It was so bright and cheery. They had six froyo flavors. They even had tart flavors, but I wasn’t adventurous enough to try those. Chris and I both went with peanut butter and chocolate.

Toppings:

  • crushed graham cracker
  • m&ms
  • crushed reeses cups

Delish!! I have an obsession with self-serve froyo. Can you tell? ๐Ÿ˜‰

Anyway, Chris’ parents just made us a delicious and healthy dinner, so now we’re relaxing and watching a movie. Hope everyone is having a great week so far! ๐Ÿ˜‰

You managed to visit most of my favorite places in Pittsburgh — Razzy Fresh, Dave & Andy’s, all the museums and dinosaurs, and Deluca’s. I still haven’t tried Tamarind Flavor of India yet (it’s only a few blocks away) but hopefully soon. And, regarding Primanti’s, I’m with you… I just don’t get it ๐Ÿ™‚
