Escaping the Cold

It’s been a while since I last posted! Well, I’m officially on vacation! Saturday morning I flew with my sister and grandma to Florida to visit my parents (they just came down for the winter a week ago).

Saturday after arriving in Orlando, my dad drove us to my uncle’s in Okeechobee to drop off my grandma, where she stays for a few months to escape the cold weather in NY.

On the way back to my parents’ place we stopped to eat at Mulligans, one of their favorite river-side restaurants.

I ordered the fish tacos, of course.

Its nice to be back here!

Sunday morning I decided it was time for a run. I was planning on a five miler around my parent’s neighborhood. (FYI: I went to the sports doctor last week for my leg–he said the pain was from both high marathon milage and changing my shoes. I went back to my older shoes for my run and felt no pain.)

I ended up going down a street along an orange grove, which was pretty cool.

Also, Florida is flat, which makes for easy running. It was in the 60s while I ran, but it felt more like 80. I’m surprised the heat didn’t bother me more–I loved it and had a great run, averaging at about a 10:28/mile pace. My sister was getting ready to go for a run when I got back–she wanted to do three miles, so I decided to join her and make my run a total of 8.0 miles! I haven’t ran that far in a while and I felt great.

Afterward, my parents, sister and I drove to Vero Beach for lunch where we had lunch at the Disney Resort. They have a cute little patio overlooking the ocean.

I had to get some sangria while I was there…

And a mulit-grain flatbread pizza too.

The pizza was delicious–just like I remember!

After lunch we went down to the beach for some relaxing.

It was a perfect day!

Today my sister and I are going kayaking on the river…neither of us have done it before. Wish us luck! I hope we see some dolphins and manatees!
