Changes on the Horizon

Something exciting happening! I’m moving again, but this time Chris and I will be moving in together! We found a really nice place in Albany and signed the lease when we got back from Florida. Its a big step but we’re both looking forward to it.

For the past year I’ve been living in downtown Troy. There are a lot of preconceived about the City. I knew that when I moved there and I do not regret that one bit! I decided to move here since it was cheaper for a one bedroom apartment then those I looked at in Albany. Also, Chris told me I would regret it if I didn’t live on my own for a year before we moved in together. I’m glad he told me do it, since it was a good experience.  So for the past year, I’ve been enjoying Troy. I’ve really loved living there.

It does have its downfalls, but for the most part, Troy has a lot to offer–great restaurants, shops, and an awesome farmer’s market. I’ll still be making the trek to Xs to Os for brunch, you can be sure of it!

I am looking forward to being back in Albany, though!

I lived in the Pine Hills area from 2003-2007 when I went to Saint Rose and then found an apartment with two college friends a few blocks from the school the year after I graduated. It was an experience. I really took living there for granted. I lived within walking distance to a lot of places, but never walked anywhere (except to the bus stop), but at the time I wasn’t health conscious at all. I had a great area to go for walks and nice routes to run but didn’t do either. I have my regrets, but I can’t change the past!

In May of 2008 I moved back home with my parents who live 30 minutes from Albany and stayed there to save money for the next three years. I still don’t know how I managed to commute to work and to my friends and Chris for that long, but I did it!  Finally, last year I made the move and got a place for myself in Troy. It was closer to work and to Chris, which I really liked.

I’ve learned a lot living on my own–I pay my own rent, bills, etc and only have my cat to keep me company when I’m by myself. At first I thought I would be lonely by myself, but that was not the case! I loved it. It will probably take some adjusting to get used to sharing a space with someone again, but I can’t wait. I’m really excited for this next step in my life! To me, Troy will always be that special place where I first lived on my own!

So, any tips on moving in with a significant other? It will be new for both of us!

Congrats on the new apartment! I have recently found your blog, and I love it! My boyfriend and I just moved to Albany, and your blog has really helped me find things for us to do in the area (love the co-op!). Although we lived together before moving here, my advice would be make sure to spend time apart. We have a one bedroom apartment, and the close quarters sure makes it easy to drive each other bonkers! haha!

Congrats Jen!! That is fantastic news! My advice is to make sure to let him have his “man-cave” time. You’ll both be happier! 🙂 time apart is key too on occasion.

Hey Jen! First off, happy birthday! Second, congratulations! Moving in with your BF is going to be awesome, and you def made the best move by living on your own first. I lived on my own for 2 years before I moved in with Mike and I wouldn’t trade those years for anything. My own advice, set one night a week where you guys have a date night. Living together, romance can sometimes take a back seat to all of the pesky living together issues like making dinner and paying the cable bill. So go out once a week and make it special. Congratulations again and good luck!
