2015 Troy Turkey Trot 10K
I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving! This year, I made a pie for my family’s Thanksgiving get-together. It was a maple-pumpkin with a streusel topping and it came out fantastic! It was my first time making a pumpkin pie and I’ll definitely keep this recipe around for next year. Before festivities began, I got up early to get ready for the Turkey Trot 10K! Since I’m living in Troy again, it was a must-do! For my warm up, I ran to the start where I waited to run into friends. After wandering around for about 15 minutes, I got in the 10 minute mile corral and finally spotted Kathleen.…

2015 After the Leaves Have Fallen Half Marathon
Sunday I ran the After the Leaves Have Fallen Half Marathon for the second time! I raved about this race last year due to the gorgeous scenery and this year it did not disappoint! We had chilly weather because it was a little breezy but once I started running, I was fine. This race is held at Lake Minnewaska State Park Preserve and runs through the Shawangunk Ridgeline. Beautiful! The course also loops around Lake Awosting and Lake Minnewaska. I think the race ran in the opposite direction this time. The first half went up the mountain. Yikes. There was a total elevation gain of 1,012′ — and after a…

Thacher Park Running Festival 10K
Hey, guess what! I still run sometimes! And Sunday I ran 10K! The Albany Running Exchange held their second annual Thacher Park Trail Running Festival on Sunday. You may recall that I ran the 10K last year as well! Well, the weather was much nicer this year and the course was a little bit different. The race started at Horseshoe II Pavilion. There was a 5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon and 50K, each of which started at 8:30AM. I got there with maybe 10 minutes to spare and chatted with Christine who was running the half, while we waited for the race to begin. Race start-it was a small field!…

Ragnar Trail New England
A spot opened up on my friends Ragnar Trail New England Team and I got in last minute to run last weekend! I’ve done Ragnar Relay Adirondacks a few times now so I was pretty pumped to try their trail relay. It was held in Northfield, Massachusetts, about 2 hours from Albany, at Northfield Mountain Recreation and Environment Center. The concept behind Ragnar Trail is a lot different from their regular road relay. A team consists of 8 runners and you set up a “base camp” at the location. Each runner has three trail loops to complete and each runner runs the same amount. For us it was the green…

Buffalo Marathon
Back in January I signed up for the Buffalo Marathon. After running the Marine Corps Marathon in October and not hitting my goal, I was determined to run another marathon. Enter Buffalo! I wanted to train for a spring marathon and Buffalo seemed right–it was flat, decently-sized and not too far (4.5 hour drive from Albany). My friend Jenna also signed up, with Buffalo being her first marathon. We arrived in Buffalo Saturday afternoon with enough time to hit up the expo (decent expo!) and enjoy the pre-race party. I got a free beer at the party with a purchase of a Buffalo Marathon pint glass. Score! We grabbed…
