2015 Troy Turkey Trot 10K

I hope everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving! This year, I made a pie for my family’s Thanksgiving get-together. It was a maple-pumpkin with a streusel topping and it came out fantastic! It was my first time making a pumpkin pie and I’ll definitely keep this recipe around for next year.

Before festivities began, I got up early to get ready for the Turkey Trot 10K! Since I’m living in Troy again, it was a must-do! For my warm up, I ran to the start where I waited to run into friends. After wandering around for about 15 minutes, I got in the 10 minute mile corral and  finally spotted Kathleen. We chatted for about 5 minutes before the race started.

I had no big plans for it, just to run and hoping to come in under an hour! With a first mile clocking in at 10 minutes, and feeling good, I decided to race and keep my pace under a 10 minute mile. I felt great despite running 6 miles with the ARE on Wednesday night at SUNY.

Running the 10K has its benefits: it starts at 8:00 so you are done early and can get ready for Thanksgiving earlier and it’s a lot less crowded than the 5K!

I love the race analysis feature on Strava.

TTTGood to know that my Garmin watch is pretty accurate–it was only 9 seconds off from my actual race time.

Immediately after crossing the finish line I spotted the friends that I was looking for at the start! Everyone had a great race! It was awesome.

Next up: the Hot Chocolate 5K in Northampton!

After the Turkey Trot I headed home to get ready for Thanksgiving! Jordan, his mom and I all went to my parents for an early dinner -my parents like to do the Thanksgiving Lunch! And everyone loved my pie!
