Exploring Richmond and the Race Expo

WOW. I have so much to say about the race. But I’m going to wait and tell you about Friday before I get into any marathon details. How mean is that? ๐Ÿ˜‰ Anyway, Friday morning Melissa and I got up pretty early. We don’t have a car here so we were limited in what we could do. We ate breakfast at the hotel and then decided to walk down to capital square to sight see and take pictures. We walked around to where the start was supposed to be and found signs for the course. It was starting to feel VERY real. We got to the race expo at around…

What I’m Loving Right Now: Marathon Training Edition – Part II

Zensah Compression Sleeves At first I didn’t see the point in compression socks or sleeves. But some marathoners swear by them, so I figured I’d get a pair since I’ll be running high mile runs and want my legs to recover as fast as possible. These are so comfortable. My legs feel great when I wear them after running my long runs! I wore them during a run once and didn’t really notice much of a difference, so I probably won’t wear them while I run. And lets face it, they would look pretty weird with running crops. Honey Stinger Waffles I mentioned these in my marathon food post but…

    The 20 Miler

I’m officially in in taper mode after yesterday’s long run of marathon training, the 20 miler. This is the most important run of training. Most marathon training plans max out at 20 miles and not muchย  more (some say 22) because running for so long takes such a toll on the body and it needs to recover from the distance..going any further at once during training might cause injury. A 20 miler will adequately prepare you for the marathon. The last 6.2 will just be adrenaline. ๐Ÿ™‚ Now, I have three weeks to taper, or reduce my mileage until race day and recover from training. I wasn’t sure how Sunday’s…
