    1,000 miles in 2012

I secretly had a goal in January 2012….to run 1,000 miles for the whole year. In the beginning of 2012 I knew I wanted to run a marathon, but in March I went ahead and signed up for one. Goal completed. And with marathon training came high mileage (for me). I ran a 35 mile week during marathon training, which was peak for me..who was used to running around 15-20 miles average. That’s a lot of miles for me, especially because I’m injury prone. Thankfully I didn’t have to deal with any nagging injuries during training! However, now December is upon us and I’m only 13 miles away from my…

    Hold Myself Accountable

So, throughout my mini-vacation in California, I did lots of walking at Disneyland, went for one run, and did some more walking, but that’s about it. That makes one run total for last week, which is really unlike me. I think I needed the short break after the grueling 15K last weekend. It really feels like it was a million years ago. I know sometimes without a specific training goal in mind (a PR, a race, etc.) I start to feel aimless with my running. My goal now is to keep running 15 miles a week, at least, and add a variety of workouts to my routine. My schedule now…

    On PRing

Last night while at Heather’s Dinner Party , Courtney, Heather and I were discussing racing, and more specifically PRing. Heather had a theory. That when in race-mode (like two weeks before an exciting race) we are really motivated to PR said race. But when actually running the race, if we aren’t running as planned (i.e. the Boilermaker…) then our rational thoughts take over and even after the race we realize we may actually never PR a race such as the Boilermaker due to the conditions of the race (hot, uphill, etc.) So, rational Jen knows I probably won’t ever PR the Boilermaker (unless upstate NY has a cold spell in…

    New Goals

I think I’m going to start getting into the habit again of making goals for myself. I used to be pretty good with sticking to my goals if I announced them but lately I’ve been just getting too lazy to even write them down due to fear of not being able to complete them. That’s going to change! Run at least 15 miles a week. (source) I ran a half marathon last weekend and I was extremely sore for the next two days. I think this was because my running during the week was almost non existent. I would run 1-2 miles twice a week and then a long run on the…

    Summer 2011 Goals

This weekend I’m in Lancaster, Pennsylvania visiting some of Chris’ family. Unfortunately I won’t have Internet access, so I will tell you all about it when I get back! Anyway, the Summer Solstice is on Tuesday, and it will be officially summer! Hurray! Last year I wrote up some goals for Summer 2010, and I wanted to do something similar this year. Summer 2011 Goals Personal Continue reading books for fun. I had a goal to read 40 books in 2011 but I’m way behind. Right now I’m enjoying “Ape House” by Sara Gruen based on Julie’s book recommendation and I’m loving it so far! I can’t put it down.  Improve…
