Bistro 7 Restaurant

On Friday after exploring the city, Chris and I had reservations to get dinner at Bistro 7. But first, we had time to spare until we were supposed to be there, so we went back to Natioinal Mechanics for drinks. Chris was in love with this bar. It was really awesome. This time I tried a beer called Flying Fish Seasonal. After looking at their website, I’m guessing it was possibly the Grand Cru Winter Reserve, a Belgian style strong golden ale. It was delicious! And I didn’t steer from the Green Challenge either, as Flying Fish is brewed in New Jersey (next door to Philly). We’re trying to keep our beer and wine purchases to a 250 mile radius.

On to dinner! Bistro 7 was only a few blocks away! We were seated and it was really small inside, but still quaint. It was a very romantic vibe too. 🙂 Bistro 7 definitely a different type of style that FARMiCiA, though!

Bistro 7 also was bring your own beer (BYOB), so we brought a bottle of white table wine that someone had given me for Christmas to have with dinner.

Before we got our meals the server brought out a sample of butternut squash soup sent from the kitchen. It was divine!! There was a crunchiness on top that I think might have been onions.

The server then brought out goat cheese filled puff pastries.

They were like goat cheese cream puffs! Can’t go wrong there!

Finally, we got our appetizers. We had decided to be a bit adventurous because we don’t normally eat out at restaurants as fancy as Bistro 7. Chris talked me into trying the escargot soup. Doesn’t sound too great, does it?

It was INCREDIBLE! It was served in what was like a mini pot pie with a crispy crust. I will admit, eating the chucks of escargot was…different. It tasted like an earthy piece of clam. A bit weird, but the creamy soup it was in was really good.

Chris got the veal sweetbreads. He said they were awesome too!

For dinner I went with the Atlantic Salmon. It was served with white bean puree and mussels. It was probably one of the best seafood dishes I’ve ever had.

And of course we had to get dessert at a place like this! I went with the Chocolate Malted Pot De Creme served with a chocolate meringue and vanilla whipped cream. The “malted pot de creme” was almost like a thick chocolate mousse. It was a bit unexpected  but really delicious.

Overall-we had a really great experience at Bistro 7! Check it out if you are ever in Philly and looking for a swanky restaurant.

That meal looks incredible! I had a similarly outstanding meal at Aureole in NYC on Saturday… gotta love fine dining 🙂 You’re seriously brave to have tried the escargot! I’ve tried it a few times but can’t get past the texture. Or the fact that I’m eating snails. haha
