Belated Scenes from the Weekend
This post is a little late, but better late than never! Last weekend my friend Brendan and I drove down to South Jersey where my sister now lives to visit! We left friday night after work (and after work + class for me), so we didn’t get down there until 9:30pm. Thankfully there was no traffic on the way down!
Saturday we had a fun day planned. We went to Laurita Winery in New Egypt, New Jersey for a tasting and to check it out. It was beautiful! Who thinks that new jersey has wineries? Well, it does, and has lots of farm land, too. I never knew!
My favorite of the six we tried was the merlot!
Sister time!
BFFS.
Julie and her boyfriend Brian!
After we left the winery we drove over to Philadelphia, which was only about an hour away. Brendan had never been to Philly so we had promised to show him the most awesome things, AKA what tourists usually do in Philly. First up, Reading Terminal Market.
We got a smoothie for lunch and I may or may have not gotten a chocolate covered caramel sea salt pretzel. YUM!
Then it was off to the Museum of Art for some Rocky action. On our way we happened to see that the Rock in Roll Marathon was in town, there were runners everywhere! I was really jealous that I wasn’t running the race.
The band was setting up for the race, and we happened to be up at the steps when they started blasting the Rocky theme, it was kind of awesome.
What a gorgeous day! We saw two wedding parties taking photos up there, too!
After, we walked over to Love Park!
Soon it was dinner time, so we headed over to a bar called the Farmers’ Cabinet, which had a really cool 1800s feel, it kind of reminded me of the Speakeasy in Albany.
They had a pretty awesome beer selection and a bunch of cool cocktails.
After drinks, the four of us had dinner at National Mechanics, a place I remember going to with Chris in Old City back in 2011. For dinner I had the veggie burger, which was really good!
We also managed to get there in time for a few happy hour specials, so I had a Pumpking, one of my favorite fall beers!
We had a great time in Philly! But the night wasn’t over yet.
Brian and Julie took us to X-finity Live in South Philly near the sports stadiums. There was a live band playing and a lot of bars to choose from. And of course a GIANT TV for the sports fans. Philly loves their sports. 😉
Its definitely not like anything in Albany. (What sports?)
The next day we got to sleep in and then decided to head over to Point Pleasant Beach in Jersey for a little bit. It was a beautiful day, and since the season is over, it wasn’t crowded at all!
We also saw a giant sand castle!
Pretty cool, yeah?
Overall we had a pretty fantastic weekend! Thanks Julie and Brian ! 🙂
