Unmotivated

I don’t know what it is. Maybe its the weird, doom and gloom weather we’re having. Maybe just because its winter and its dark like, all the time, but lately my motivation for running has been nil.

Tuesday night I had to talk myself into going to the gym. I went to yoga and then had to drag myself to the treadmill for a three mile run. I normally love yoga, but for some reason I just couldn’t get into it. I just didn’t want to be there–I’d rather have been on my couch! But, at least I made it to the gym?

Yesterday I had 5 miles on the training plan but couldn’t face the gym again. I forced myself to run outside, in the gloomy, rainy weather. My legs were sore from yoga the night before and I felt so sluggish. I made it 4.5 miles. I was going to stop at 3.5 but figured, Hey, I’m already wet and out here, might as well run another loop. You’d think the 56 degree weather would make up for it–but it was still pretty bad out there.

Please, motivation, come back! Please tell me I’m not the only one struggling! This is not a good way to start off marathon training.

I’m in the same boat. I think it is part weather related and partially because I haven’t been feeling all that great. It’s early on – you’ll get your motivation back! I have been either cutting runs short or not going at all. I feel guilty but on the other hand, I think my mind can use a break at the moment. Good luck! 🙂

I’m also suffering a motivation-gap at the moment. Running seems slow and hard and having to retreat inside (which I’ve done just once so far) was too depressing for words!

Still, I managed 52 miles in January, which is OK and although I suspect February and March will continue to be hard, I expect I’ll bounce back and I’m sure you will too!

Now, I just need a race to build some enthusiasm around…

spring races are slim pickings around here! Esp. longer distance ones. There is the Mastodon 15K in Cohoes in May–I ran it last year, its a HARD race. Ahhh.

I’m right there with you. For me, it’s less about motivation and more about scheduling. I think I’m trying to fit too much onto my plate right now, and exercise seems to be one of the first things to go. I’m hoping the warmer weather and longer days of spring will be here soon and push me out the door. Until then, I’ll keep trying to cobble together the energy!
