The Toad Strangler – 4.3.2022
The first gravel event of the 2022 season is in the books! Yesterday, my friend Margaret and I rode the Toad Strangler, a new 39 mile route in Chatham that was organized by the same group that organizes the Farmer’s Daughter Gravel Grinder! The bike was ready to go! (I am planning on doing a full post about my new bike–stay tuned!) Unsure what to wear for this ride with the weather forecasted in the 40s with chance of light rain, I packed almost every jacket I own and ultimately ended up wearing a light rain jacket (the Outdoor Research Helium jacket) which turned out to be a little too…

Gravel Gobbler Big Bird – 11.6.21
Better late than never right? The Gravel Gobbler was my final big gravel ride of the year. And it turned out to be a gorgeous day and great ride! (Currently it’s the middle of winter and I’m pining for days like this.) Anyway, the Gravel Gobbler is one of my favorite local gravel events. This time the course was reversed, however there was still a lot of climbing. One of my favorite parts of the ride was riding Seven Bridges Road in reverse (a fun downhill). Columbia County Gravel Ride
A few weeks ago Jordan and I took advantage of the gorgeous fall weather and decided to do a gravel ride down in Columbia County with some friends. We parked at S&S Brewery (they were closed) which is a good starting location for some great gravel routes in the area (it’s where the Farmer’s Fatty and the Gravel Gobbler start!) I found the route for the 2020 Virtual Gravel Gobbler on Ride with GPS. Even though there are some challenging climbs on this route, it’s such a beautiful area so all the climbing was worth it. 2020 Virtual Gravel Gobbler Dirty Bird Distance 24.3 mi Elevation 2,158’ Time 2 hrs,…

Riding the Old Champlain Canal Trail
Wednesday’s weather was fantastic. It was also my birthday! When I got home Jordan and I decided to take our bikes out for a quick ride before dinner. We both recently got “alternative road bikes” which are meant for road/dirt/gravel trails. So far, we love them. We rode along the Old Champlain Canal which starts in Waterford. It was a nice, quiet gravel trail, perfect for our bikes. We rode about ~10 miles total. In mid-April I injured my knee when I was riding at North Bethlehem. I went to the Bone and Joint Center where they did an x-ray (no fracture)-just a bone bruise. So I haven’t been riding much…
