Kayaking the Rollins Loop – St Regis Canoe Area
For our first anniversary, Jordan and I decided to take a camping trip to Rollins Pond, our favorite campground. I love Rollins because almost every site has water access, which is perfect since we now both have kayaks. On Sunday, I had planned a kayaking trip for us: the Rollins Loop which we could paddle directly from our campsite. After cooking breakfast and getting our gear ready, we started around 11am. We paddled through Rollins Pond first, staying to the right side of the shoreline. I had read that there is a small flowing stream that leads to the next body of water, Floodwood Pond. There is a portage trail…

ACL Recovery – Hiking Hurricane Mountain 5 Months Post Op
Sunday marked another huge ACL recovery milestone…a mountain summit! Hurricane Mountain is one of my favorite hikes in the Adirondacks and I figured it would be the perfect mountain for first real hike post op. Jordan and I met some friends at the 9N trailhead at 10:30 am on Sunday and off we went. I remember the trail being in great shape—not too rocky and not terribly steep—good conditions for my first real hike with elevation. I was nervous at first because I thought I might be getting in over my head. But the trail was wonderful. I just took it slow and hiked at my own pace. I felt…

Hiking Sleeping Beauty – 12.30.18
A few weeks ago my sister and dad joined me for a hike up Sleeping Beauty, a popular mountain near Lake George, and a part of the fairly new “Lake George 12ster Challenge”. I’ve hiked it a few times already, the first being a little over 10 years ago as my very first ADK hike, as well as my very first solo hike. It holds a special place in my heart! On Sunday I got to share it with part of my family! I love Sleeping Beauty because it was my very first Adirondack hike over ten years ago. There are a few trail options for this hike. We chose…

Winter Wonderland in the High Peaks – Hiking Phelps 12.8.18
Last week I got an invite from my friend Alicia to hike Phelps with her and our friend Francis. The weather was looking a bit cold, but I decided to join them since it had been a while since I’d hiked and was craving a long outdoor adventure. It had also been a while since I’d been on snowshoes (more like 2 years)! Alicia and I met at the exit 12 park and ride at 5:30am and drove up the Loj to meet Francis and his friend Mike. We arrived at the trailhead and the car’s thermometer read -14. Yikes! Thankfully we were all prepared with the appropriate cold weather…

Hopkins Mountain – 9.22.18
Last Saturday, my good friend Brendan and I drove up to the high peaks for a long-awaited hike. Brendan is still working on the 46, so we had originally planned to hike Lower Wolfjaw from the Bennie’s Brook Slide, however, decided against it when we spent 1 hour trying to cross a high brook on the way to the base of the slide. We decided to hike a much lesser-traveled trail to Hopkins Mountain. The trailhead is located right on Route 73 in Keene Valley across from the Rooster Comb trailhead. We parked in the lot for Rooster Comb, crossed the road and started hiking via the Ranney Trail–you will…
