Fall Foliage Hike – Sleeping Beauty – 10.9.20

A few weeks ago my friend Frank and I hiked Sleeping Beauty in Lake George, one of my favorite hikes. It was my first every Adirondack hike back in 2008, as well as my first solomy first solo hike a few years back! I also hiked it with my dad and sister a few years ago—so needless to say, it’s my go-to hike! The trailhead is only about a hour from Albany so it’s a really nice spot if you’re looking for something close to home with great views for little effort.

We parked at Dacy Clearing, the main trailhead. Sometimes the gate is closed and you have to park further away and walk down the dirt road, but on this day it was open, so we parked in the lot at the trailhead. Normally I don’t mind the road walk for a few miles but it was nice to not have to do it.

I had planned on hiking the Bump Pond Loop. The main trail is pretty rocky on the way up. Soon enough we came to a junction and took a right to Sleeping Beauty Summit. There are some switchbacks, so the trail is a fairly easy climb compared to some of the hikes I’ve done.

The views were spectacular!

After enjoying the sun on the summit for about an hour, we headed back down and instead of going back the way we came, we took the trail to Bumps Pond. This route is a little less-traveled so the trail was really nice.

Bumps Pond

Overall it took us about 4 hours at a relaxed pace.

Sleeping Beauty – Bumps Pond Loop
