Spring Race Plans

Now that the Winter Series races are over, its time for me to focus on training for my next big race! Alicia and I are both signed up for the More Magazine/Fitness Magazine Women’s Half Marathon in Central Park in New York City on April 15.

I’ve never ran in Manhattan before so I’m super excited about this race! It will also be Alicia’s first half marathon! (HURRAY ALICIA!) My training plan for this race is pretty loose but I’m going to make sure to stick to the tempo runs and speed workouts outlined in my plan.

Here’s this week’s example:
Monday – OFF/Rest Day
Tuesday – OFF/Rest Day – normally I do an easy run on Tuesdays but I just wasn’t feeling up to it so I used Tuesday as another rest day
Wednesday – 3.1 mi @ 10:00 pace
Thursday – 5 mi tempo: 1 mi warm up, 3 mi @ 9:11 pace, 1 mi cool down
Friday – 3 mi @ 10:00
Saturday – Long run, 7-8 mi @ 9:22 pace
Sunday – OFF/Active Rest Day – 60 min Yoga

Normally I don’t run four days in a row, but since I took Tuesday off I’m going make up that run on Friday if I can! My goal for the half marathon in April is to run it at 9:14/average pace and PR with a time under 2 hours and 4 minutes…which I think I am totally capable of doing if I stick to my speed workouts and tempo runs instead of slacking! ALSO, train on some hills during my long runs…which I don’t usually ever do! Three weeks after this race I have the Pittsburgh Half Marathon, which I’m planning on running for fun…so I’m really excited about that race too.

Got any exciting race plans coming up for the Spring?
