Saturday Brunch and Movie Date

Chris and I are developing a new tradition–Saturday Brunch and Movie Date. Every other Saturday, my favorite bakery, Xs to Os in Troy has a vegan brunch. So far we’ve gone three times and the food has been amazingly delicious! Yesterday was no different!

My favorite brunch date. 😉

I got up early and headed to the gym Saturday morning for a workout, which started out as 20 minutes on the elliptical and then I tried out a new class called Body Flow. It was a yoga-inspired workout, which was awesome! The warm up was a bit weird, some tai-chi movements, not a fan of those…but after that we got into more yoga-esque poses with movement, so it was a great workout! I was working up a sweat and I’m sore today!

So needless to say I worked up a good appetite. Chris came over and we headed to Xs to Os. They were running behind with the brunch so we waited about 15 minutes for the food to be ready. It wasn’t too bad. Saturday’s menu was chickpea gravy with biscuits, roasted root vegetables and steamed greens!

I grabbed a gluten free biscuit because it was the first one I saw, they also had wheat biscuits too. And loaded up on veggies and greens.

I don’t know what was in the gravy besides chickpeas but it was delicious! It was filling and left me feeling happy. I love how the food here filling without giving you that icky bloated feeling. Good food = happy me.

After brunch it was time to hit up the movies. Our movie was at 3:35 and I had dinner plans for 7:30 so I knew I would need a snack to bring with me to the movies. Instead of getting popcorn or something unhealthy at the theater I opted for a Larabar. Can you believe I’ve never had one before? Larabar sent me four flavors to review on my blog and these were the ones I chose.

I picked the Chocolate Chip Cherry Torte to bring with me to the movies.

The nutritional stats are pretty good on these guys. I love that there are only six ingredients! For this one it was dates, fair trade chocolate chips, almonds, unsweetened cherries, cashews and sea salt.

It was really sweet (from the dates I’m assuming) with no added sugar! It had a lovely cherry flavor and I was a BIG fan. I savored every bite. I can see how these are so popular! Perfect for a movie-going snack. I can’t wait to try the others.

Anyway, the movie we saw was Anonymous.

I saw previews for it and it seemed intriguing. I’m a sucker for historical dramas, I guess! It was very good! It a bit confusing at first (I had a hard time telling which character was who) but it had some twists and turns at the end. I was a fan.

It was a fun day. I could get in the habit of doing brunch and movies with my favorite date every Saturday. 🙂

I love Xs to Os! I am hoping they will put out another Groupon. I have never made it to their brunch but I bet it is amazing!
