My Third High Peak – Tabletop Mountain
Oh the Adirondacks, how I love thee!
Saturday my friend Brendan and I drove up to the High Peaks area to do some hiking with Christine and her friends. She’s in the middle of hiking all 46 high peaks and wanted to hike Table Top Mountain. We met her up there at the Adirondack Loj where the trail began. Finding the Loj was pretty easy, there are three huge parking lots for hikers, and a camp shop for buying supplies and renting bear canisters. There are also bathrooms and showers!
Off we went for our little jaunt in the woods.
Table Top is one of the unmarked trails, but the first 3 or so miles are on a marked trail, eventually the marked trail goes off in one direction and then the unmarked, to Table Top, goes another. After hiking up a narrow, wet, rocky trail we found the summit, which was small and wooded.
My least favorite part is going back down. We had the option of doing Phelps on the way back, but it would have added another two miles and Brendan and I were feeling beat. Next time.

Becoming a 46er was one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done. Glad to see someone else getting out there and enjoying the High Peaks – they truly are amazing!

I have yet to hike any high peaks, and this is something I really want to start doing next year. I only hiked two mountains this year: Harvey Mountain (which is about a 3m RT hike, short but steep, a good one to do on a whim as it is close by), and Twin Mountain (near Saugerties, 6m RT) last weekend. Both were challenging but I had no problems despite the lack of hiking I’ve done in the past few years, so I feel pretty confident about my ability to tackle some high peaks next year. Planning on Cascade and Porter in the spring. 🙂
