My Favorite Winter Running Gear
At the beginning of winter, I was really struggling to find the perfect running clothes. Last winter I ran on the treadmill all season, but this year I wanted to do some of my running outside. After running the Winter Marathon Relay last weekend I realized I knew what worked for me. Here are some of my favorite winter running items! (note: I purchased all of this gear with my own $$ and just writing my honest opinion on these products!)
This jacket is awesome because it really keeps you warm when faced with the elements. I’ve never worn it while it was raining, but I’m pretty sure it would keep me dry. I even ran with the hood up, and it stayed put the whole five miles I was running. It also kept me warm but was also breathable, so I didn’t get overheated. However, I would recommend wearing a throwaway jacket over it if you have to wait at the start in really cold weather (below 15 degrees), because I was really cold at the beginning of the Winter Marathon Relay and was glad I had a throwaway jacket to throw at mile 3.8. I also love that it is reflective so its perfect for running outside when it starts to get dark.
Gap BodyFit Running Jacket

This jacket is perfect on its own in 40 degree weather. But unfortunately, now its way colder than that. I wore this underneath my Nike Ripstop running jacket and it kept me warm without being too bulky. I really love the thumbholes in the sleeves too. I usually put my Garmin over the sleeves so I can still push my Nike jacket up and see it easily. It works!
Nike Fleece Headband
This headband is awesome because keeps my ears warm when running outside and also keeps my hair out of my face! I can’t imagine running without it! Although, last weekend I wished I had a full hat since it was almost too cold for just a headband, but the hood on my jacket worked just has good as a hat would have!
Cheap Gloves

No need to spend tons of money on gloves for running, since I usually take them off after a few miles once my hands warm up. But these work perfect to keep my hands warm during my run! And if I lose them I usually have another pair lying around somewhere.
Reebok Cold Compression Running Tights

I absolutely love these running tights! They are comfortable and keep me warm! I tried running with a pair of pants over them one time and it was uncomfortable and felt too bulky, so now I just stick to these, since they usually keep me pretty warm. I find my legs usually aren’t too cold to begin with (its usually my feet & hands) so these work out great! And they were only $35, which is a pretty good deal for coldgear tights.
Zero Xposur Mock Turtleneck Longsleeve

I bought this longsleeve shirt (in black, not purple) at Sear’s in the fall and now I wear it underneath every jacket during my cold runs. I have never heard of this brand before I bought it and it was on sale so I figured, why not? Its so soft on the inside and its not too tight so I like the loose fit.
Anyway, hopefully I won’t have to deal with running in the cold much longer! We still have about a month and half of winter left, so I’m really looking forward to running without a jacket! 🙂 But until then I will be warm!
What’s your favorite piece of cold weather running gear?

I really should have bought a headband. Otherwise I have a great running turtleneck and fleece that I got at TJ Maxx! The fleece is UnderArmour but the turtleneck is some other brand.

I’m so glad you posted this! I never have any idea what to wear for cold weather runs and usually end up dressed completely wrong, layering everything I own and and end up overheating. Or I just avoid cold weather runs altogether, which probably isn’t the best solution either 😉

I definitely want to get some running tights. I usually just wear sweatpants, and they get really uncomfortable sometimes (they always seem to end up too hot or too cold.) I do have some good running jackets from TJ Mazz that I love!

Amber from Girl with the Red Hair
I bought Sugoi mid-zero running tights at the beginning of the winter and they were the best purchase ever! Though, they are almost worn out now because I wear them 3-4 times a week and wash them 2+ times every week 🙂 But I LOVE them and can’t recommend them enough!!
