LaZeez and an Attemept and Vegan Baking

Last night Chris and I went to check out LaZeez, an Indian restaurant on Central Avenue. Friday nights they have all-you-can-eat buffet. We wanted to see if it was any better than the buffet at Aashiana. So, I filled up my plate with their vegetarian delights.

On my plate

  • Chickpeas
  • Vegetable Korma (mixed vegetables in a cream sauce, my favorite)
  • Palak Paneer (spinach and cheese cooked in a cream sauce)
  • Green beans
  • Fried vegetable dumpling thing (no idea what it was called)

And we got a fresh baked serving of Naan (my other favorite).

The naan was soft, buttery and chewy, so lovely.

My opinion on the food: it was alright…I liked the vegetable korma enough to go up again and get a second serving. BUT, I don’t think it was as good as Aashiana’s vegetable korma. The naan was just as good, if not better! (I’ve only had Indian food at a restaurant three times in my life, so I’ve never had bad naan).

Dessert was a rice pudding type of thing, which wasn’t too bad, It was really creamy, but the texture was a bit weird. I guess rice pudding isn’t my thing!

After Chris and I stuffed our faces with Indian food, we went to burn off some of those calories by BOWLING! (how many calories DOES bowling burn? I have no idea..) but that was fun, too, even though I suck terribly at bowling. 😉 My high score was a 65. Should I admit that?

Anyway…onto today’s adventures.

Today I made a foray into vegan baking! I have been eyeing up Ashley’s recipes on neverhomemaker. Today I decided to try to make her double chocolate granola-ish bars.

I had all of the ingredients on hand (except Almond Butter, which I try not to bake with since its so expensive) so I substituted the AB for Teddy’s Natural Peanut Butter. I also used canola oil instead of coconut oil and just hiked up the oven temp to about 300 degrees instead of 270.

They came out a little bit crumbly, so it was hard to get them out of the pan, but they tasted great! Very chocolately.

Hurray for my first successful vegan baking attempt! 🙂 Thank you Ashley!

After my baking escapades, I headed out on a short bike ride, since the weather has been gorgeous today. I had to get out there! I biked about 7 miles. I didn’t have my garmin on me, so I guess I was out there about 30-40 minutes. Felt nice.

Now, I just need to figure out what to make for dinner tonight! Decisions, decisions.

Have a nice Saturday night, everyone!
