Kayaking on the St. Sebastian River
I almost forgot to post about my first time kayaking while in Florida.
The pictures were on my digital camera and I didn’t bring the cord with me on vacation–so I nearly forgot.
The tour guide said that up to 60 manatees live in this part of the river in the winter–I really wanted to see some!
So we got into our kayaks–there were five of us total. It was my sister’s first time paddling and it was my second. Last summer Chris and I took out a canoe on Thirteenth Lake in the Adirondacks and he sort of taught me how to do it…so at least it wasn’t completely unknown territory. It was easier than I thought!
It was a gorgeous day–not too hot and not too cold.
We saw a lot of wild life–so many birds, turtles…and yes, manatees! They like to swim near the edge of the water near the mangroves. One was even close to my paddle…it was so neat.
It was so relaxing being out on the river–I loved it. I can’t wait to try kayaking again! We did our guided tour through the Florida Outdoor Center. It was $35 for two hours and our tour guide Kristin was great. I’d highly recommend her if you’re ever in the area.

That looks like so much fun and I love the pink kayak, too! It would have been so cool to see manatees up close like that. We used to go kayaking as kids, I miss it.
