Happy 1 Year Blogoversary to Me!

One year ago this week I started Jen is Green! I never in a million years thought I would love blogging as much as I do right now (and that I would stick with it!)–and there are so many things in my life that never would have happened if I had never started writing my own blog.

I knew I wanted to share my thoughts on food and fitness with everyone, so I knew a way to do it would be to document my life as a I try to maintain my 80 pound weight loss. The past year has not been easy, but with the support I’ve found through other bloggers, it has been a lot more manageable! Sometimes I wonder where I would be right now if I hadn’t gotten involved in the community.

Because of blogging …

I Ran a Half Marathon

When I first started reading blogs about fitness, a lot of them focused on running. Specifically, distance running! I was a beginning runner, running maybe 2-3 miles a few times a week. I saw that a lot of bloggers were running half marathons and marathons! They  inspired me to run longer distances than I had in the past, and I actually ended up really enjoying it! I first trained for a ran a 15K and then a half marathon and loved it and plan on running a second half marathon in May!

I Discovered New Healthy Foods

oats in a jar, anyone?

Health and fitness blogs almost always feature lots of food! At the time when I started reading blogs, I was in a rut with food choices, I was eating the same thing day in and day out.  Most of the food included processed diet prepackaged food. Blogs were such a wealth of information!! I started buying healthy, whole and natural food instead of diet food:

  • fat free greek yogurt (so much better than the watery yogurt I was eating)
  • rolled oatmeal with healthy toppings
  • almond butter, sunflower seed butter, and other types of peanut butter
  • brown rice protein powder, chia seeds, flax seeds, and maca powder
  • green smoothies!
  • almond milk
  • kale
  • quinoa

And of course, there are tons more! I really love that someone is always trying something new, and therefore inspiring me to try new foods too!

I Made Amazing New Friends

(thank you Heather for the group photo!)

Starting a blog allowed me to eventually meet other local healthy living bloggers! We met up for the first time last summer, and a lot of us have kept in touch since then. We’ve ran races together, and even had an awesome Christmas cookie swap. These girls have also been there for me, given me advice and really helped me out with so many things–I love them!

Happy 1 Year Blogoversary to me–here’s to many more exciting years as a blogger! 🙂
