ACL Recovery Log #13 – 10 Weeks Post Op
This past weekend I celebrated my 35th birthday! The weather was beautiful, and I was able to get outside and ride the bike! Jordan and I decided to ride with some friends (while maintaining a safe distance) on the Vischer Ferry trail. Since it’s not far from our house we thought it would be a nice place to ride since it’s flat. But everyone else had the same idea—the trail was crowded in some spots. We wore our buffs that we pulled up whenever we passed other people. But the number of people NOT wearing face-covering was surprising. We rode 7 miles out and back—on the last few miles I…

ACL Recovery Log #11 – 6 Weeks Post Op
Time is certainly flying by. It’s been 6 weeks since surgery and my knee has been feeling a lot better. I think 6 weeks marked a turning point, as my knee feels less sore and doesn’t swell as much. I’m also feeling less of need to constantly ice it. It’s still tight and occasionally feels sore but it’s not nearly as bad as it was a few weeks ago. I’ve been doing a lot of quad/hamstring strengthening exercises in PT (and at home) and my leg is feeling stronger every day! I can almost walk up the stairs 100% normal, but going down can still be challenging. I still have…

Mountain Biking in Flagstaff, AZ
As you may already know, Jordan and I went to Arizona for our honeymoon back in September! The first part of our trip included hiking into the Grand Canyon, which was an incredible experience. For our honeymoon, we spent the first three nights at the National Park, followed by four nights at a cute cottage called “Berguhette” in Flagstaff, just 1.5 hours from the Grand Canyon. The cottage was the PERFECT base for us and it was a perfect size as well. Since we brought our mountain bikes along with us for the honeymoon, the second portion of our trip would be dedicated to just that–mountain biking! We had to…

2019 Gravel Gobbler
I love fall gravel riding. When the mountain bike trails are soggy, it’s time to hit the gravel roads! On Saturday, Jordan and I met up with our friends Margaret and Jeff for the Gravel Gobbler, a gravel ride that starts at S&S Brewery in Nassau. The great thing about the Gobbler is that the proceeds go directly to the Regional Food Bank of NY–such a great cause! Jordan and I were originally planning to stick to the shorter, 23-mile gravel route, but got talked into riding the 38-mile route instead. The route was very similar to most of the other gravel rides I’ve done (the first gravel gobbler, the…

Gravel Riding at Mohonk Preserve
On Saturday Jordan and I decided to go on a Gravel Adventure down in the Catskills! We drove the 1.5 hours to Mohonk Preserve to ride some of the bike-friendly trails. It was a beautiful day, so everyone else had the same idea. We drove around the area looking for a parking spot for about 30 minutes until we found one at the Mohonk Visitor Center. I went inside and one of the workers recommended a nice 12-mile route for us! It involved a tiny bit of road riding to get to the starting point of the Undercliff Trail, but totally worth it. The gravel carriage trails at Mononk are…
