Riding the ADK Ididaride Gravel Course – 11.7.20
Last weekend my friend Aubrey and I got out on the gravel bikes. The weather was looking amazing, so we decided to ride the ADK Ididaride Gravel Course. The Ididaride is a bike event that takes place in North Creek (In the Adirondacks) every summer. I was planning on participating in the event this past July but it got canceled (along with everything else) due to Covid. The past few years they added on two gravel options, a 22 mile and a 30 mile route. We arrived at the North Creek Ski Bowl area around 10 am on Saturday. The temps were already in the 60s, which is pretty uncommon…

Columbia County Gravel Ride
A few weeks ago Jordan and I took advantage of the gorgeous fall weather and decided to do a gravel ride down in Columbia County with some friends. We parked at S&S Brewery (they were closed) which is a good starting location for some great gravel routes in the area (it’s where the Farmer’s Fatty and the Gravel Gobbler start!) I found the route for the 2020 Virtual Gravel Gobbler on Ride with GPS. Even though there are some challenging climbs on this route, it’s such a beautiful area so all the climbing was worth it. 2020 Virtual Gravel Gobbler Dirty Bird Distance 24.3 mi Elevation 2,158’ Time 2 hrs,…

ACL Recovery Log – 6 Month Post Op Update
I can’t believe 6 months have passed since my surgery. Like usual, not much has changed since my last update. Overall, my knee feels the same: strong but weird. I’ve resigned to the fact that my knee won’t ever feel normal like my other knee. It’s just different now. It feels tighter because it is. I still have a slight clicking when I extend my leg and not sure if that will ever go away either. Biking I’ve been biking a lot! I feel like my mountain biking fitness is equal to my pre-injury fitness at this point. A few weeks ago, I did a big ride at Elm Ridge…

ACL Recovery Log – 4.5 Months Post Op
Well, it’s been a while since my last update! At the end of June, my PT office closed and I had to find a new facility to finish out my rehab. I started going to a place in Albany that has an alter-g, an anti-gravity treadmill. The treadmill is great for rehab since it removes some of your body weight to take the impact off your joints. I imagine it’s what running in space feels like! Every time I go to PT I get to do a run/walk session on it. This will hopefully make my transition into regular running easier. My new place is pretty nice, but I do…

ACL Recovery Log #14 – 3 Months Post Op
Last week marked 3 months post ACL reconstruction surgery! Three months marks a few big milestones, one of which is starting plyometrics in PT (light hopping and jumping), as well as a follow-up appointment with the doctor. Last week he cleared me for walking easy hiking trails, as well as some easy mountain biking. I must admit I haven’t done either yet. I’ve been a little reluctant to get on my mountain bike for obvious reasons. However, I have been riding my gravel bike a lot recently. Over Memorial Day Weekend I had a goal to ride at least 50 miles over three days. Done! I rode a total of…
