ACL Recovery Log #7 – 5 Days Post ACL Surgery

Note: this post contains photos of my post-op knee with stitches so if that might bother you feel free to skip!

The past weekend was a blur. I came home from surgery on Friday afternoon expecting the pain to hit hard, but it never did. I kept track of my pain meds and stayed on top of them so I must have done something right. Monday morning I was allowed to take off the dressing and take a shower. It didn’t look as bad as I thought it would. I forgot to mention in my last post that in addition to ACL reconstruction, I also had part of my torn meniscus removed.

I took my last pain med on Monday night, so hopefully, I won’t need them anymore! I’m just on 600 mg ibuprofen every 8 hours+ Asprin 1x per day and Tylenol when needed. I’ve been working on a few of my PT exercises like heel slides and seated knee flexion exercises. I don’t start back up with PT again until March 16.

I’m prepared for this to a slow process, but I think it’s moving along well so far. Patience and hard work will be key. I can hobble around on one crutch. I can put my full weight on my knee but I have a mental block. The rest of this week I’m going to work on trying to get rid of the crutch. I’m trying to stay positive, even though this whole situation sucks. A lot.

Also, the weather has been pretty nice recently which makes me sad that I can’t enjoy it.  I’m really looking forward to being able to take a walk outside soon.
