A Run by the Hudson

Good morning! Boy, I had a busy weekend and I finally have some time to relax!

I started my weekend off the right way on Friday after work with TGIF Yoga, a Friday evening class at Heartspace Yoga Studio. I had a pretty stressful week, so a good yoga class was just what I needed. The class was great, but not too challenging. I left feeling really stretched and my shoulders are still a bit sore! During class the instructor pointed out that I really hyper-extend myself during poses, which I never realized I did, so I really have to work on that next time.

Yoga on Friday night was perfect this weekend, since I usually don’t have time for any exercise on Fridays. I was glad I went because I had a 7.0 mile run planned Saturday morning with Melissa! I fueled for my run like I normally do, with some organic frozen waffles! These are the best running fuel, ever! I topped the waffles with superfruit spread from Trader Joe’s along with some Almond Butter which made for a satisfying pre-run breakfast.

I usually always drink a cup of green tea before my long runs, too. Some people drink coffee, but I find tea gives me a great energy boost! I brewed some organic loose leaf green tea that I got at tea shop in Woodstock a while ago.

Melissa and I decided to meet at the Corning Trail to attempt 7.0 miles together. The weather was about 40 degrees (!) but it felt more like 30 with the wind, which was pretty brutal at times. It was fine when it was at our backs though…a bit challenging when we were running into it.

We made it about 2.0 miles down the trail and then we hit some messy ice patches and had to turn back and run the opposite direction. At mile 4.0 we stopped back at our cars for some Water + Gu Chomps and then ran back and forth on the trail until we hit 7.0 miles. Thanks to Melissa for being an awesome running buddy! It really makes the time fly by when you have someone to chat with during the miles. One of the things we kept talking about was how bad we both want Spring to come and how much better the river and the trail look when its not covered in snow and ice. 😉

Yesterday’s run was my second long run in my training plan! The race I’m training for is the Cherry Blossom 10 Mile race in Washington D.C., and its less than a month away. I felt really great during my run yesterday, so I’m hoping all my runs until the race go as planned because I really want to run this race strong!

After my run I had plans to hang out with my cousin, (and local artist!) Liz! We grabbed lunch at the Daily Grind on Lark Street. The last time I was here was on Liz’s birthday!

I ordered some more tea, this time it was apple cinnamon herbal tea.

I liked the saying on the mug. “Friends don’t let friends drink Starbucks”. Ha!

For lunch I got a veggie egg sandwich, which was one of their specials. It was egg, spinach, tomato and grilled onions on an everything bagel. It was fantastic for this famished girl. I rarely eat regular bagels. The last time I had one was in the exact same spot on Liz’ birthday. And boy, it was so worth getting! The bagel was chewy and fresh and the egg was delicious.

I think breakfast food is my favorite type of food to eat after running. Yum!

What is your favorite way to re-fuel after a hard workout?

your running always impresses me so much! and I loveeeeee Harney & Sons tea, they have some great flavors 🙂

the Daily Grind is great, I always wanted one of the “friends don’t let friends drink Starbucks” bumper stickers they sell but I shamelessly by Starbucks too much because I live too far from cute coffee shops on Lark, haha.

Great job on your run! I am soooo glad I ran with ya! I needed a good run to get myself back in the game.

Thanks for the stats. I think our pace would have been more consistant if we did’t have those icy patches. Hopefully, they have all melted away for our next long run!

That bagel sandwich looks tastey! Yummers!

I went out in the rain and biked 4 miles today. Miserable weather, but I needed to get out of the house and do something active. Hopefully, the weather will improve really soon, so I can spend more time outside!
    Are you listening, weather gods?
